It all began when my father, a die-hard Republican, through whatever bizarre motivation (he knows I am a liberal), gave me a subscription to the Washington Times.

As these things are wont to do, one thing followed another and I began receiving all manner of rightwing mailers.  Thus the seeds were planted for my own version of Operation Chaos . . .

Follow me below the fold for why and how (anyone can join in) . . .

The beauty of such mailing lists is their easy manipulation in ways that will benefit (in multiple ways) progressives for years to come.

For example, I was offered a newsletter . . . "free of charge! Now or ever!" . . . I subscribed . . . and, without ever reading it, will dutifully walk from my mailbox to the recycling bin whenever it arrives.  Even those mass mailings cost money to produce and send.  I will "bleed the beast" that is the rightwing by letting them waste money on me.

Or, I recently got a "poll" from the Heritage Foundation (bragging how Rush Limbaugh uses their research to slam liberals and explaining their fight against such ultra-liberal organizations as Moveon and Daily Kos).  They promise they will share my views with policymakers and members of Congress.  Hmmm . . . what to do . . . the envelope IS postage paid.  I know!  I'll fill it out and advocate the MOST extreme views of the right.  That should drive true moderates sceaming in our direction!

Yes, there is a lot of fun in all of this . . . you too can play at home!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?

but it does make good fuel for a fire.

Obama is to primary as Hillary is to... secondary.

    •  Agreed. Aren't repubs responsible for destroying (0+ / 0-)

enough forests already?  You know those fuckers don't print on recycled paper.  There are better ways to mess with them without wasting resources.  (Like, say, repeated calls to their 800 numbers)

    •  But . . . (0+ / 0-)

as I say, I am already getting this stuff in my mailbox, whether I like it or not.

But the postal carriers will still drive their trucks, etc. whether I respond or not.

I just think righties should pay for the mailings BOTH directions (and if I can make them skew more raving lunatic, that is a bonus)..

On one hand, sure, waste their postage at every opportunity.  On the other hand, I'd hate to add my name to the total that allows them to brag that their roster is X million members strong.

For myself, I think I'll stick to being a "card-carrying" member of the ACLU and other organizations of which I can be proud.

that joining and supporting progressive groups would be a much better use of your time. What you are doing may make you feel good at the time, but it is bad Karma. Doing something positive for something you believe in is far more productive than doing something negative against something you do not believe in.

    •  What makes you think I don't . . . (0+ / 0-)

      join and support progressive groups?

As I explained, I get this crap delivered to me whether I like it or not.  Trust me, it doesn't take much time or energy to do the sort of things I describe.

You fill a shoebox with sand and tape it to the shoebox.

First class postage on 20 lbs baby.

Once I got one of the from the NRA (I hunt) and I got a medium size box, filled it with sand, and walked over the post office, 100 yards from my apt. at the time.

I explained honestly what I was doing and why and that I did not want to violate any laws.

When I asked if sending them a box of sand was a violation of any law the clerk took the box from me and ran back and threw it on the truck to get it in that day's mail.

So now, when I get these, I tape them to a spare piece of tile, or marble, or firewood, and drop them in the mailbox on my way to coffee in the am.

There is a size limit to getting it into the box, like 12 inches, so I don't do the 20lbers any more.

But I still do it and it's great.

Once I ate 10 dollars worth of Nixon campaign money at a pizza place.  (10 bucks then was like 30 now...)

but seriously, it is a waste of paper and fuel as was said.  Furthermore, there are much better ways to spend your time fucking with conservatives.  I've found out the best way is to get them to support Ron Paul.

    •  LOL I'm sure that works! (0+ / 0-)

Divide and conquer and all that.  But for myself I'd have a hard time pretending to advocate Paulism.  Be kinda like them trying to talk us into the proposition that we should support Nader.  Oh wait, they did ...
