Sorry for the short diary, but just want to keep this at the top of people's minds...the scale of this disaster in Sichuan and elsewhere in China is only now beginning to unfold. The latest headline on Sina.com (Chinese language site) is that across 8 provinces/municipalities there are over 9200 confirmed dead and an estimated 500,000 structures collapsed.
Other good places to get updates...all of the below are in English
Shanghaiist
Twitter (niubi is the user -- lots of internal press and unofficial stuff here)
China Daily
Shanghaiist published the following announcement regarding how we can help with donations...
For those who are looking to contribute to current aid efforts underway, you can now donate money to the Red Cross Society of China which has formed a disaster relief working group to be dispatched to the earthquake-stricken Wenchuan County in Sichuan....
The link for online donations can be found here at the Red Cross Society of China website: www.redcross.org.cn
UPDATE: the Red Cross site seems to be overloaded, and it's in Chinese which of course may be an issue for many readers. I will be looking for additional sites that can accept donations asap. Other suggestions I'm happy to post here too!
UPDATE 2: According to laderrick, Obama's site is directing people to The American Red Cross, who are apparently taking donations for China, though they don't have anything up on their page about the quake yet.
Another suggestion...Doctors Without Borders. Thanks nchristine!
Thanks for your donations, prayers and thoughts!
