Right now, John McCain is supposed to be dealing with the annoying question of what to do with Ron Paul at the Rethug Convention. We would all love to see him speak there. But McCain may try to put him on, if at all, when he can be sure as few people as possible are watching. So ...
We could just stand by and urge the Rethugs to put him on:
Democratic political consultant and commentator Bob Beckel then joined into the Fox discussion, saying of Paul, "I think he ought to get a prime time speech at the convention. This is the only guy that has a bobble doll made for him that his head doesn't move."
"They're nuts," Beckel said of Paul's supporters, hastening to add, "I don't mean nuts in a bad way. They're nuts about their guy."
"I think they ought to do it, Mike," Beckel concluded, laughing. "I think it would be great for you guys to have Ron Paul at your convention."
But I say, we should put Ron Paul on at the Democratic Convention, and offer him prime freakin' time. We need to peel off his voters ... independents and non-Bush Cult Republics who hate the war, hate illegal surveillance, hate torture, and hate Bush deficits and the inevitable, vast tax increases on future generations. He's a nut case in some respects, I grant you that. But if his speech is properly vetted, if he sticks to the issues on which we can agree, if he makes a principled case for a constitutional republic that respects the rule of law and is at peace with its neighbors ... I think we've got a lot more to gain than to fear!
