Tonight Senator Hillary Clinton went for the pathos moment with the story of a little boy from West Virginia, or was it Kentucky, who sold his bike and his toys to raise money for Senator Hillary Clinton's campaign. Maybe he's a real kid. Maybe his parents can afford to buy him new toys, or this was just his yard sale. Maybe he figures his Mom will love him if he gives up everything for Hillary Clinton. Wonder how much he gave, in sacrifice of a child's pleasure in a bike and activities. Dalton may walk on water, or he may be a child who is overly invested in his adult's adult concerns and passions. A touching story . . . maybe.
Or, maybe its another story, that initially sounds endearing and cute, until you consider that Senator Clinton has no fair chance of winning the nomination.
Senator Clinton began her speech with an appeal for money; from folks in one of the poorest states in the union. She waxes poetic about their circumstances; poverty; joblessness; in stentorian tones, with wide gestures, and emotion-laden content.
Here is a candidate who began her campaign with the biggest campaign war chest in U.S. History. She had half of Hollywood holding fundraisers for her; very secretive donations from what are likely some very big corporate interests that she refuses to disclose; and her personal fortune, currently reported to be in 109 million range was apparently underreported, and her husband has another 25+ million parked in the Cayman Islands. (What other former U.S. President has parked money in an off-shore local known for its handy use in avoiding taxes?????)
She is running a nearly hopeless campaign that is running up unnecessary debt, to the tune of a million dollars a day. She is "loaning" her campaign this money, clearly expecting to be paid back . . . how many people can do that (?) . . . It is clear that she holds the expectation that we Americans will pay it back. She clearly expects, as a former first lady, that it will be acceptable to Americans for her to overturn rules that she agreed to most fulsomely at the beginning of her candidacy to give her an unfair and undue advantage.
She is now asking these poor voters and strapped individual donors, whose donations she didn't exactly court from the get-go in this election, to pony up even more money . . . And with all the money she has already raised and spent, she is only able to play the race/religion card to manipulate votes and ape the leadership and originality of Senator Obama. She is now in debt to the tune of over twenty million dollars and the meter is still running. A sizeable portion of this goes to Mark Penn, a corporate strategist who divides our nation, and others, into polarized groups, so that corporations can work their will around the globe, very often against the best interests of citizens. She owes him millions.
Keith Olberman raised the idea of Senator Clinton's running a Ponzi scheme:
According to Wikipedia,
A Ponzi Scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that involves paying abnormally high returns (profits) to investors out of the money paid in by subsequent investors, rather than from net revenues generated by any real business. It is named after Charles Ponzi.
Dalton Hatfield sold his toys to pay Senator Clinton's campaign debt. Senator Clinton knows that this story is designed to flatter herself and her campaign; a hallmark moment; but only if you aren't informed with facts.
