I enjoyed watching Chris Matthews destroy the right wing hack during the history lesson on Hardball tonight. In case you missed it (despite its appearance on numerous blogs, including this one), here it is: http://www.dailykos.com/...
My criticism after the jump.
All across the blogosphere, Matthews was applauded for putting this jackass in his place.
DailyKos:
Hat tip John Cole, also covered by diarists AntonBursch and Glic. Matthews tears this clown's throat out. Words can't do it justice, you just have to see it. The fun begins at about four minutes in:
Americablog.com:
Chris Matthews obliterated a right-wing radio host tonight on his show over Bush's comparison of Obama to Nazi appeasers. Seriously, this is about 6 minutes long. Watch it. In a nutshell, Matthews called the guy on his bs. The guy kept saying that Bush was right, Obama was like the people who appeased Hitler, so Matthews asked the guy who Neville Chamberlain was. The guy had no idea, and tried to bluff his way through five minutes of Chris Matthews repeating the question over and over again. It was wonderful. Some of the best political television ever. (Hat tip, TPM.)
MyDD:
it's the best TV I've seen in weeks)
TPM:
Right-Wing Radio yakker crashes and burns like the Hindenburg while trying to talk about appeasement ..
Get the drift?
Now I'm all for exposing conservative jackassery. Granted, Chris Matthews gave this prick what he deserved. Still, Tweety's brand of gotcha journalism has run roughshod over just as many progressives as conservatives and from an objective perspective, it comes off as unfair.
Don't believe my sudden sympathy for this jerk who obviously skipped History class? Check out our reactions to Tweety's interview with a Texas Obama supporter from a month ago:

My point is that Chris Matthews's brand of gotcha journalism has no place in the mainstream media.
