There is being quite a lot of shock posted on a recent statement that Mike Huckabee made here in Louisville a few hours ago at the NRA conference--namely, Huck made a comment on how a supposed sound was Barack Obama ducking in an attempt to keep from being shot at.
For some of us--especially those of us who have followed Huckabee's extensive links with the highly militaristic "Joel's Army"/"Joshua Generation" neopente dominionist movement--this is but the latest and one of the more blatant of his statements of this type, and probably not even the most extreme of them.
In today's special edition post, we give a bit of history on this.
Why Huck's jokes about assassination aren't a shocker to me
To at least some of us...Huckabee's recent statements aren't a real shocker...if anything, it's just a remarkably open statement of what he's been saying to "God Warrior" circles for a while. And yes, I'm being very serious about Huckabee's statements of this sort NOT being unexpected.
Huckabee is a promoter of a particularly nasty kind of dominionism--"Joel's Army"/"Joshua Generation" dominionism, popular in neopentcostal dominionist circles (and increasingly in the SBC, as neopente-linked steeplejackers solidify control over that denomination and try to turn it into Assemblies of God Lite). Huck is in particular linked with Bill Gothard--a horrendous promoter of "Bible-based" child abuse and a neopente dominionist "Bible-based cult" which runs a literal paramilitary training camp for young "God Warriors" (among others); this would be the same horrid child abuse promoter who is linked to not only abusive "Bible-based" boot camps that have been shut down by state authorities but also may have been directly responsible for the recent murder-suicide of Matthew Murray in Colorado Springs. Gothard is also becoming rather infamous for attempts at essentially the steeplejacking of entire city and state governments via their public safety officials--something Huckabee actively supported as governor of Arkansas.
Huck is also linked very closely with Assemblies of God leaders who have called for the mass denationalisation of all non-neopentecostals and support Holocaust-revisionist hate groups--hate groups officially supported on a denomination-wide level--and who also not only operate multiple chains of "Bible-based gulags" with your tax dollars but run their own "God Warrior" training camps as well--including in the denomination's equivalent of Scouting.
And Huck most certainly DOES seem to have set himself quite blatantly as a member of Joel's Army; Huck has (in the private face meetings at neopente and neopente-friendly dominionist churches--you know, the sort where chundering out "demons" is a bit of a bonding activity) actually equated all non-neopentecostals with literal Nazis and Christians who aren't dominionists as "good Germans".
Knowing that lovely statements like this are promoted within Joel's Army churches literally all the time--to such an extent that their own leaders have called for overthrow of the US government by hook or by crook, the official bible translations actively call for the destruction of non-dominionists as an act of "national penance" and explicitly call for war with the rest of humanity, paramilitary groups are actually funded by their members, and domestic terrorists including persons responsible for the most recent terror attacks on US soil previous to the 11 September attacks are lauded...well, it's not a real shock to hear this out of Huck's mouth.
Especially considering one of the people backing him up is known to be linked to the Army of God domestic terrorist network (linked to multiple bombings of women's clinics and assassinations of clinic workers, and who has periodically had a hit list of clinic workers online complete with home addresses and dossiers).
Hence why Huck's statement is less than surprising or shocking (heck, compared to these folks, his endorsements by the AFA and "American historical revisionist" group Wallbuilders seems tame in comparison!).
If anything, hearing this sort of stuff out of Huckabee's mouth is almost expected, based on the present company he's been keeping.
And sadly, it's unlikely the US government will take these threats seriously--almost no investigation on a federal level of domestic terrorism has been done since Dubya got in office. One hopes the Secret Service takes this seriously for once.
