A little bit more than two years ago, Georgia House Speaker Glenn Richardson lashed out at U.S. District Court Judge Harold Murphy for his ruling that struck down the state's original voter ID law as unconstitutional. Richardson suggested that we needed to end the entire concept of an independent judiciary when he made this statement:
"I think citizens in general are sick and tired of people they vote for and elect going and making decisions and then a judge, who is not elected by anybody with a lifetime appointment, is able to put his or her will above those elected officials' opinions. Maybe they ought to have a term limit. What about a 10-year term, or something like that?"

Term limits for judges...
...That's a concept that I still can't wrap my head around even three years after Speaker Richardson made the comments. But this isn't about Glenn Richardson...well, it is because for all his criticisms against the Speaker of the Georgia House, Paul Broun is proving himself to be cut from the same mold.
Much like Richardson attacked Judge Murphy for overturning the 2005 voter ID law back then, Congressman Paul Broun is on the attack now and his target is the California Supreme Court:
"...Furthermore the people of California made it abundantly clear, in 2000, that they reject same-sex marriage. Then comes along four judges, who apparently believe that they are wiser than over four and a half million voters in their state. Proposition 22 got over 61% of the vote, yet it was dismissed by four lone dictators.
Every single federal judge takes an oath to uphold the Constitution. When they fail to do so, and let their own...ideological positions interfere with applying the Constitution...these judges have failed to fulfill their term of good behavior and they should be fired by impeachment [...] These judges deserve to be censured or sent home for bad behavior.
I do believe that Congressman Broun has upped the ante in this case. Speaker Richardson wanted to impose term limits on judges. Broun wants to remove them from office entirely. Both Georgia Republicans are against an independent judiciary.
