CNN is reporting that Obama and Clinton are currently in negotiations to put Hillary on the ticket.
The two Democratic campaigns are talking about ways for Clinton, from New York, to drop her bid for president that may include joining the Illinois senator's ticket, CNN reported. Talks are in a ``very preliminary'' stage and are described as ``difficult,'' the network said.
It is obvious that these negotiations are being floated by the Clinton camp, because David Axelrod denied them immediately on MSNBC with "Morning Joe". Axelrod said:
We haven’t engaged in any talks with Clinton about Veep.

Moreover, the Field also reported yesterday that Obama already rebuffed Hillary telling her that he was not interested:
The Field can now confirm, based on multiple sources, something that both campaigns publicly deny: that Senator Clinton has directly told Senator Obama that she wants to be his vice presidential nominee, and that Senator Obama politely but straightforwardly and irrevocably said "no." Obama is going to pick his own running mate based on his own criteria and vetting process.

UPDATE: CNN Backtracking (Thanks to KFlake, fro HuffPo)
Suzanne Malveaux, the CNN correspondent who originally reported the talks, appeared on CNN to walk back her initial report slightly. She now suggests the talks between the camps are informal (as opposed to formal), and are primarily motivated by Clinton supporters. She still stands by the claim that the camps are in communication about a possible endgame. Take the distinction for what you will.
Well, if these talks are in fact taking place, then neither camp is fessing up about it. Greg Sargent reports on Election Central:
Well, I've just spoken to both campaigns about this. And their denials couldn't be more adamant.
Here's what Hillary spokesperson Howard Wolfson sent me:
1. There have been no discussions with the Obama campaign
2. The only scenario being discussed by this campaign is Senator Clinton's nomination as President
3. The report is 100% false
And here is what Obama spokesperson Bill Burton said:
"This is something that I agree with Howard on 100%."
It's kinda funny, I (David Kroning) wrote about 30 minutes ago on the Open Thread, "What idiocy will Clinton mouth today; I know it's only 8:38am, but the woman is on a roll."
