It was not so funny about the huge uproar that the conservative media caused about a President lying about a blowjob. Calling for his impeachment and tied up the country for many months. Of course, that was because it was a moderate Democratic president.
Every since our current conservative Republican glorious leader got in office I have been unable to watch most of his speeches because I know it when he starts lying. There was a brief exception just after 9/11. But a few weeks later a massive infection of lies spread like a pandemic through out the administration. Mainly to get Saddam but about everything. Distorted and crazy reasons on why we were attacked. Lies that seemed calculated to inflame the angry country and gather power.
Now the president's press secretary admits that one of my passions that I knew to be true and tried to tell and write conservatives about was true.
My biggest crusade, and what generated most of the outrage against me for pointing out the truth, was my informing people that the vice president, and other high officials with the encouragement of the President, had outed a covert CIA asset and harmed efforts to prevent Iran from getting nuclear materials. Almost worse was the reason, a petty effort to harm someone's reputation.
At the time, I received the most insults in my life. Not only did I not know what I was talking about it wasn't true and I was "a lying scumbag insulting good Christians." (How that got into the insults was that people mistakenly decided a nickname I got in 1974 over story tales and making up a holiday to give gifts really was a recent calculated insult to Christians.) People get crazy. When high officials stroke the flames people hate being told they are being lied to.
I told people that was a scandal worthy of immediate impeachment. It involved national security and nuclear proliferation and high crimes and treason for petty vindictiveness. They told me I was the liar.
Now Scott McClellan on Plamegate:
"The most powerful leader in the world had called upon me to speak on his behalf and help restore credibility he lost amid the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. So I stood at the White house briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior-most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby. There was one problem.
It was not true.
I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice President, the President's chief of staff, and the president himself."
That is from the formerly very highly praised by conservatives presidential press secretary and what must be the new bastion of far left hippie liberalism - Forbes Magazine.
Watch the conservatives, and most of the pundits - a tautology, go into action now. They will soft play this and attack Scotty, who must be a troubled, bitter and ambitious man.
"If he had doubts he should have expressed them."
"This was really not that big a deal."
"He is mistaken."
"Not important."
"Didn't we already have a trial about this?"
This is a tiny part of the lies, pettiness, disregard for truth, propaganda, reach for unprecedented power, and shredding of the Constitution that has marked this administration.
I started blogging over the lies of this administration and the absolute failure of the So-Called-Liberal-Media. That has been the two constants of the blog - that the Bush administration lies and that the SCLM isn't liberal and doesn't inform. Scott even admits "The collapse of the administration's rationales for war, which became apparent months after our invasion, should never have come as such a surprise.... In this case, the "liberal media" didn't live up to its reputation. If it had, the country would have been better served."
That was picked up by Glenn Greenwald who also became involved as a blogger and a writer because as a lawyer he knows the law and the constitution and what anything that claims to be non-partisan news media should be reporting on and isn't. Glenn also caught the amazing Today Show where the network anchors praise the horrendous job they did in the run-up to the war.
Will this admission change anything? Not really. Although the media doesn't like being told they were lied to, they expect it. They more don't like being told what a lousy job they are doing. The real story is that now the mass media's only job is to repeat what the powerful tell them, to get viewers, and that to expect anything else create your own paper or find the little outlets.
The story might continue the peel off of conservatives who love our country and love and respect the constitution from the Republican cause. Even if their rationalization is that Bush and national Republican Party aren't true conservatives.
Can we get a little impeachment talk before Bush and Cheney finally leave? It seems the least that can happen after what media and conservative put Clinton's and the Democrats through.
