You might have heard the blurb about how Rupert Murdoch a) influenced the NY Post to endorse Barack Obama and b) predicts a landslide victory for Obama:
The tide is against the Republicans, and Obama could overcome the race issue. McCain, Murdoch said, is a friend, patriot, and decent guy, though he conceded also that he is unpredictable, has spent too much time in Washington, and is not great on the economy (which he said is in a recession) or organizationally adept.
What you might not have heard is that Elizabeth Murdoch held a fundraiser at her home that netted $400K for Obama two weeks ago:
A fund raising event at the London home of Rupert Murdoch’s daughter has raised $400,000 for Barack Obama’s campaign to be President.
...
The Democrat front runner was so pleased with the amount raised he phoned Elizabeth Murdoch that night and congratulated those who had attended and lent their support.
Those attending were asked to pay £1,160 each to Senator Obama’s fund. Only those holding American passports are allowed to contribute directly to campaigns.
The sound you hear is that of a collective cranial implosion over at Fox News. I suppose it's only a matter of time before rightwing pundits declare the Murdochs as a bunch shady illegal immigrants from another continent. I mean, it's not like the Murdochs liberated a Nazi death camp or anything, right?
I can't help but think about how GW Bush bragged about his "political capital" after the '04 election. Well, if you lose the Murdochs*, then not only did you waste all of your political capital, but basically you pissed away the political capital of the entire Republican Party. Après moi, le déluge, right Mr. Bush?
*And when they are raising 400K for the other party, it's fair to say that you more than just lost them.
