Wow! Who knew? I mean, I don't keep up much with the Catholic Church, or the second acts of terrible rappers, but I can't believe I didn't know Vanilla Ice entered the Priesthood! You'd think that woulda been news. Anyway, Father Ice shoulda stuck with music. What an ass! Even more disgusting was the seeming, or unseemly, relish with which the attendees of Trinity United greeted this childish and hate filled diatribe.
Mark my words friends, Sen. Obama, if he wants to be the President of the United States, is gonna have to cut all ties with Trinity United Church. Last Sunday's proceedings, sadly, triangulate and provide depth to the worst fears and perceptions of Sen. Obama's long term relations with Rev. Wright and Trinity. This is not one man, in the form of the Rev. Wright, who according to Sen. Obama has experienced a profoundly negative evolution over the past two decades. Nope, this was just a guest shepherd, but the flock followed along and ate it right up. Whooping and hollering, laughing and jumping, shrieking and yelling. Ugh, a most unpleasant scene.
Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely zero problem with liberation theology as I understand it. African American folks have every right given our past, present, and even more importantly, our future, to be angry, insular and defiant. It is their right as Americans, and frankly, the kind of strength shown by Trinity in all of it's good works show that, no matter some of the more unpleasant dialogue, it is an overall positive entity.
Still, here we go again. Will Sen. Obama continue to play his losing strategy of incremental retreat regarding his church? In the last episode at the National Press Club, Rev. Wright treated us to an 'is it Live, or is it Memorex?' greatest hits revue, very much a preview of the act I would expect to see if The Sands signed him to performance contract in Vegas. Yet when presented with this, Sen. Obama was shocked, angered, saddened and disappointed with this by all accounts standard version of Rev. Wright's worldview. Is there a single person in the Trinity community who would agree with Obama's assertion that the Reverend has changed even one iota over these last decades? Based on what I'm looking at on my TV, I'm guessing not. That wasn't believable then, it is even less believable now. Besides, when he is the President, he won't be able to attend Trinity, for obvious reasons. Trinity United has taken Barack Obama as far as it can, from community organizer to the brink of being the Democratic Nominee for President. At this point, this entire part of his life is nothing but an anchor on his ambitions, he needs to sever ties to Trinity United immediately, or risk having this all be for naught.
Edited to remove tags someone else put on my diary. Man, this place has a bizarre Big Brother element to it!!
