I think it was easy to get caught up in the excitement of the rules credential meeting. I had to work so I didn't have the opportunity to become voyeuristic in seeing what would happen with the delegates. I think it was a blessing because I had time to reflect this evening on what is really going on in our country.
When turning on CNN a few minutes ago to see if anything was still going on with the DNC, I saw a headline that McCain visited Walter Reed Hospital today. I couldn't help but think of how we have United States Senators who simply do not support our troops. (evidence by their vote on the GI Bill). I immediately think of Rick Noriega in Texas about go on Active Duty for the Next Two Weeks.
I'm going to renew a call I made last night for donations of $14 for each day Rick Noriega will be gone. click hereclick here or on thermometer
Last night, I wrote a very similar diary on how we should support Rick Noriega while he goes on active duty for the next two weeks. While, it may be a faux paux to repost a diary, I do have a new angle on this issue and some new and original thoughts. article from Houston Chronicle
Every day we continue to get caught up in the Obama/Clinton affairs, we lose sight of taking our mark in the Senate. By losing focus on these races we leave the opportunity that we will have John Cornyns in the Senate again next year.
We also lose sight of putting other races in play like Tenn and Kentucky and yes even possibly Miss and Alabama. At the present time we should be drawing more attention to providing benefits for our vets and who will better support those who put their lives on the line on a daily basis.
I just talked to a veteran last night who just got back from Iraq for the second time and let me know that he is voting a straight ticket Democratic ballot. That is what matters right now, not whether or not Clinton can delay this election for a few more weeks. If we do not focus on issues like why those 22 voted against the New GI Bill and how Bush may vet, I think we could allow the Republicans to re-direct the issues.
By not focusing on it is the right thing to do to increase educational benefits we allow those like John Cornyn to make statments like this:
An all-volunteer military depends heavily on retaining trained personnel by encouraging re-enlistment. The McCain bill improves the military’s ability to do just that. The Defense Department and the Congressional Budget Office say that the Democratic bill would adversely affect retention. It’s disappointing that some seek to exploit this issue for political gain. Fair-minded people can disagree on our mission in Iraq or whether the war on terror is worth the sacrifice, but the well-being of our military should be off-limits to partisan politics. I hope that a bipartisan compromise on this issue can be reached soon.

I think we all get the point as to why those like Rick Noriega and Bob Tuke who served our country and continue to serve in Noriega's case are better than John Cornyn and Lamar Alexander. I urge you to also take the time to learn why such candidates such as Vivian Figures Figures website would be better than Jeff Sessions. So please at least give $14 for Noriega. If you can give more then please spread the wealth to other candidates. I think we can raise several thousand dollars off drawing attention to this issue.
Certainly you are with me that while it is important that we focus on the presidental race, we need to make sure that we do not lose sight of increasing our lead in the Senate.
