That is latin for "the Die is Cast."
And it is. At some point this week, after Senator Obama wins both South Dakota and Montana, and after enough super delegates endorse him, he will pass the 2,118 threshold and he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party.
And at that moment, the division between Clinton supporters and Obama supporters literally ceases to exist. At that moment, with Barack Obama as the nominee and thus the de facto leader of the Democratic Party, if you oppose him you oppose the Democratic Party. Thus, the division that will be created will be between Democrats and defiant Hillary Clinton supporters.
Once Obama is the nominee, any statement or action that tries to take him down as the nominee or prevent his election is a step toward electing McCain, no matter how noble the intention.
And no, I am not talking about Hillary supporters who, while being very disappointed and even angry that she will not be the nominee, are still good Democrats who intend to vote for Obama in the fall.
These Democrats should always know that my animus is never directed at you in any way. Indeed, and I think I can speak for a vast majority of my fellow Obamaniacs, those of us who have supported Obama during this campaign hold no animus towards the supporter of any rival campaign. We have always welcomed former John Edwards supporters, Joe Biden supporters, Chris Dodd supporters, Bill Richardson supporters and Hillary Clinton supporters with open arms, so long as they were at most willing to join us in voting for Obama in the fall.
We did not and do not care that these former supporters of rival campaigns were not enthusiastic as us for Obama. We can take care of the enthusiasm.
We did not and do not care that these former supporters of rival campaigns were not willing to donate money towards Obama's campaign. We can take care of the money.
No, all we wanted was for you to support the winner of the primary contest with your vote in November, and in between now and then, not do anything that would make it difficult for him to get elected as our President.
We really do not care that you even like Obama personally or politically. I wish you did, but I don't need you to like him. All I need is for you to vote for him.
This has been the implicit deal between intra-party primary combatants for as long as I can remember, no matter the office.
So, to be clear, we Obama supporters hold no animus to Hillary supporters who, while not liking Obama and still very upset and angry that Hillary is not to be the nominee, still plan on being good Democrats and voting for Obama in the fall.
Where we must express our animus loudly, vocally, and utter contempt is towards people like this:
With all due respect to a fellow Kossack who is wondering why we have all been up in arms for the last days about the outrageous and immoral behavior of certain Clinton supporters at and outside the RBC meeting on Saturday, people like Harriet Christian above or any Clinton supporter who declares their intention to vote for McCain out of spite because an "inadequate black male" won the nomination deserve no concessions, no sympathy, no empathy, and certainly no consideration from Obama supporters.
People sharing the feelings expressed by Harriet Christian are racist. They are simply not going to vote for Obama BECAUSE he is black. And I dare say they view him inadequate BECAUSE he is black. I will not spend one second of my time trying to convince people like Harriet Christian to vote for Obama.
Moreover, if a Hillary supporter declares their intention to vote for McCain out of spite, without consideration of the life or death issues at stake, and without consideration of the sons and daughters that will literally die because of their vote, then I similarily will not waste a moment trying to convince them to vote for Obama.
For I simply do not want to be associated with or have in our Party people who are so unethical, so unprincipled and so morally bankrupt where they are willing to embrace a third term for George W. Bush simply because Hillary Clinton cannot be President.
The former Clinton supporters who are not racist and who are not murderously spiteful, deserve our welcome and respect and our love. They should not ever feel like they are to be associated with the likes of Harriet Christian simply because they too passionately supported Hillary Clinton for President.
But, with respect to those like Harriet Christian, my animus towards them is deserved and it is required. Indeed, the real question here is why are people even suggesting that concessions be made to people so racist and so morally bankrupt? The real question here is why isn't there more animus towards these horrid people.
