Still needed for nomination: 26.5!
Welcome to the continuation of today's delegate countdown.
Estimates are for a minimum of 15-17 pledged delegates out of SD and MT tonight so we're hoping for some more supers to let the voters push him over the top today.
Our most recent endorsements came from Jimmy Carter of GA (who is that guy) as of 2:51 PM EST. Updates will follow.
Update 1: Wire story released indicating that Clinton campaign to concede tonight is followed up by Clinton press release to the contrary.
My take, internally people are squabbling over what to do at this point and some enterprising soul has taken this public.
jj32 brought up the good point that they might have issued the denial to avoid depressed turnout in the ongoing primaries today.
Update 2: John Perez of CA, per MSNBC.
Update 3: Just reread the initial AP account of the Clinton campaign concession. Interesting to me was this:
The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign.
I find this intriguing because one motivation the AP doesn't mention is that per FEC she cannot fundraise to pay off more than 250K of her personal debts if she formally ends her campaign. If she doesn't formally end it then she has until the convention ends in August.
Update 4: Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (MI) (1/2 vote). I love those half vote supers. They are still full people to me.
Update 5: Fast and furious a two-fer that counts for one: Debbie Dingell and Rick Wiener both Michiganders. I love that word.
Update 6: Headed off to lunch. Will it be over when i get back? Keep the comments updating and I will update the diary with the new number when i return.
Update 7: Back from lunch and we have Maine DNC member Jennifer DeChant endorsing and rumors of 3 more from Clyburn. Also Fred McDowell an Edwards pledged delegate from FL has switched to the O train.
Update 8: Joyce Beatty DNC member from OH joins the O train. Woot!
Update 9: AP reporting Obama has clinched the nomination!
Barack Obama has effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates.
Update 10: Kwame Kilpatrick mayor of Detriot, MI comes out for Obama. Probably the first good national news Kwame has been a part of for a while.
Update 11: Adding Tim Moore and John Spratt of SC outed by Clyburn, since Obama's campaign and MSNBC are counting them now. Less than 30 to go!
Update 12: Debra Kozikowski of MA.
Update 13: Jerry McNerney (CA) joins the O train. All aboard!
Update 14: Former President Jimmy Carter of GA joins the O train. Welcome aboard Mr. President. Oh and Ausman of Florida, RBC complaintant extraordinaire wins our "Waste of a Superdelegate (Half) Vote" award of the day by endorsing Hillary Clinton. Guess that might be overshadowed by Jimmy Carter. Not sure.
