Be careful what you wish for. After enduring day after day of superdelegates dripping out for Obama, today is the day we finally get the flood. It's hard to keep up, but in a good way. Since BoBo2020's diary was getting long, I thought it was time for a later afternoon/early evening superdelegate Open Thread.
Here are the superdelegate endorsements so far today:
For Obama:
39.5 - State Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal (MO)
38.5 - DNC Member Joyce Lalonde (MI) (1/2 vote)
38 - U.S. Rep. John W. Olver (MA)
37 - DNC Member John A. Perez (CA)
36 - Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (MI) (1/2 vote)
35.5 - DNC Member Debbie Dingell (MI) (1/2 vote)
35 - DNC Member Rick Wiener (MI) (1/2 vote)
34.5 - DNC Member Fred K. McDowell (FL) (1/2 vote)
34 - DNC Member Jennifer DeChant (ME)
33 - DNC Member Joyce Beatty (OH)
32 - Kwame Kilpatrick (MI) (1/2 vote)
31.5 - U.S. Rep. John Spratt (SC)
30.5 - Tim Moore (SC), an Edwards pledged delegate, has endorsed Obama. He's not a superdelegate but we've included him here.
29.5 - DNC Member Ralph Dawson (NY)
28.5 - DNC Member Debra Kozikowski (MA)
27.5 - DNC Member Carnelia Fondren (MS)
26.5 - Distinguished Party Leader Jimmy Carter - YES! Carter said he won't endorse until after the polls close tonight, but DemConWatch just added him to their totals, so I defer to the masters.
26.0 - DNC Member Tina Abbott (MI) (half vote).
25.0 - State Rep. Sharon Nordgren (NH), is the second pledged Edwards delegate to endorse Obama today. She's not a superdelegate but we've included her here.
24.5 - DNC Member Mike Tardiff (MI) (half vote).
Two superdelegates switch!:
23.5 - DNC member Ben Johnson (DC) switched from Clinton to Obama.
22.5 - DNC member DNC Kamil Hasan (CA) from Clinton to Obama.
22 - DNC Member Diane Glasser (FL) (half vote)
18 - The Obama campaign announced that 10 more Edwards pledged delegates (not superdelegates) have endorsed Obama. I already included 2 of these delegates in the lists above (Moore and Nordgren), so I've reduced the total by an estimated 4 more, since apparently most if not all of these delegates are from Florida. But I may have to adjust this again, once I figure out exactly what's up with this. From the Obama camp:
With today’s announcement, every delegate pledged to Senator Edwards in Iowa (four delegates), New Hampshire (four delegates) and South Carolina (eight delegates) will be voting for Senator Obama at the National Convention. In addition, 10 of the 13 Edwards delegates from Florida will be voting for Senator Obama at the National Convention.
17 - Rep. Maxine Waters (CA) switched from Clinton to Obama. That's a biggie, and the third switch from Obama to Clinton today.
16 - DNC Member John Daniello (DE).
15 - DNC Member Harriet Smith-Windsor (DE).
14 - DNC Member Rhett Ruggerio (DE) switched from Clinton to Obama, the fourth superD to defect from Hillary today.
13 - Rep. Dennis Moore (KS).
12 - Rep. William Jefferson (LA). Um, thanks?
11 - DNC Member Bel Leong-Hong (MD).
10 - DNC member Ivan Holmes (OK), and yet another state party chair behind Obama.
We're heading to single digits folks!
8.5 - This is not a new endorsement, but an adjustment to the total due to the 10 additional Edwards delegates that endorsed Obama today. According to DemConWatch, these 10 delegates equal 7.5 delegate votes, since several of these delegates are from Florida. I had estimated 6.0 delegate votes, so I'm deducting the additional 1.5. Isn't this fun?
7.5 - Rep. Sam Farr (CA).
6.5 - Rep. Bob Brady (PA).
For Clinton:
- DNC Member Jon Ausman from Florida (who presented the state's case at the RBC Meeting Saturday) has endorsed Clinton,
kinda:
"Once I knew Obama had enough votes anyway, I decided I wanted to send a message of unity," Ausman said.
Whatever.
Superdelegates Expected to Endorse Obama But Not Official (and thus not in the totals yet):
-
Sen. Ken Salazar (CO) and Gov. Bill Ritter (CO) expected to endorse Obama today or tomorrow.
-
Sen. Herb Kohl (WI) said he will endorse Obama this week - perhaps today.
-
Rep. Jerry McNerney (CA) is expected to endorse
Obama one of the candidates sometime tonight.
- 5 Montana superdelegates are sent to endorse tonight after the polls close, including Gov. Brian Schweitzer and both senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester. The
WSJ Blog reported that these three superDs are set to endorse Obama, but I read another report that said they will endorse the winner in Montana (which hopefully is the same thing!).
- The
New York Times reports that at least 8 members of Congress will endorse Obama right after the polls close in South Dakota at 9 p.m. EST, per Obama aides. No names are named, so there could be some overlap with some of the names listed above. (H/T Bitter Elitist).
-
3 Tennessee superdelegates plan to endorse Obama tomorrow: Gov. Phil Bredesen, Democratic Chairman Gray Sasser and at least one other.
UPDATE:
Here's a link to MSNBC's primary coverage livestream (H/T MrvnMouse).
UPDATE 2:
It's all over. Obama is our nominee! All the major networks have called it. So I'm gonna stop counting delegates and go celebrate with a nice glass of Oregon pinot noir. Cheers everyone!
