According to all reports, tonight the fight might finally be officially over. Right now Obama stands on the edge of wrapping up the nomination. As a result I am proposing a toast for all, 9 pm-ish (or as soon as Obama finish’s on stage tonight. I don’t know what time that is exactly.)
More below the break.
Cudos to all Democrats, to all supporters of all candidates who were in it when it began 18 months ago. We as Democrats have fought a spirited, sometimes heated primary campaign, and in this historic race saw this thing through to the very end.
Congratulations goes out first and foremost to Obama and his supporters. Tonight we get a presumptive nominee, a historic moment as it is the first African American nominee in our rich History. I as an Obama supporter and life long Democrat, am beyond thrilled. All those that worked the phones, donated, blogged, debated, canvassed, fed, housed, and drove, deserve a pat on the back. We would not be here tonight if it wasn’t for you / us.
Secondly, a big congratulation goes out to Senator Clinton. Together with Obama they have energized the Democratic Party, registered millions, dominated the news cycle for a year, and organized thousands. She and her supporters fought a good race and as Democrats we should be proud and supportive of each other.
Tonight begins the progression towards unity and the fight against John McCain. As of tonight our focus and efforts turn towards McCain, not against each other. This is an evening for celebration. A toast is in order to the presumptive nominee and to a victory tonight not just for Obama and us supporters, but to all Democrats.
