I was thinking of what to write my first diary about earlier tonight, when I heard the defiant speech from Senator Clinton. Later on, after Obama's brilliant, moving speech, I was trying to come up with the right words to express how I felt. MSNBC analyst Tanya Acker put it perfectly.
I don't remember the exact quote, but it came down to Hillary Clinton asked for respect for her and her supporters, but completely disrespected Barack Obama by not even acknowledging his win. I think that really nails it on the head. This was supposed to be completely Senator Obama's night to celebrate his primary season victory. And it was supposed to be our time, as his supporters, to cheer him on as we have all these many many months.
Obviously, this is no average celebration. This country has a very sad history of slavery and segregation and extreme racism. Tonight an African-American has broken all odds and become a nominee for President. Think about that for a minute. It's bigger than gi-normous! I had tears in my eyes during his speech. I'm proud that we've come this far. And when Hillary Clinton had the chance to recognize and respect our Party's nominee and the history-making moment, she decided to take a figuritive crap on it.
Senator Clinton, you need to concede this race. But before then, you owe Senator Obama an apology. You owe us all an apology.
Updated: Thanks for rec's guys. I really didn't expect that.
