I know this isn't a real diary. Nothing new here. But please don't flame me!
Tonight, after months of inspiring moments, tears, and hope, we made it. My mother, whom I diaried about earlier, returned to the states just in time to celebrate this victory with us.
We were disappointed in Clinton's non-unifying speech, but then President Obama came on and rallied our spirits, like he always does.
After too much champagne, we went outside to take in the night air. A few minutes later, our neighbor joined us. We offered her a much needed cigarette and a glass of champagne. We talked about religion and hope. A family friend came by to congratulate us. He was a Hillary supporter, but he cried with us, celebrated with us. He told us he was worried about his brother-in-law, who won't vote for Obama because he "won't say the pledge of allegiance." As you can imagine, we gave him a mouth-full! He said he would work on his family, and accepted our gift: a "No McW" sticker.
Then, to our surprise, some other neighbors, who we thought were Republicans, came out and hugged us. They told us we needed to encourage others in the neighborhood to put flags and Obama signs up.
It's 12:37 AM and we are still celebrating, all of us. Together.
This is our night. This is our time. Yes We Did.
Congrats to everyone at DailyKos and around the country and the world. I am so proud to be a part of this historic movement.
