That was a quote from my departed Mother, bless her, and was the only time I ever heard her curse. She was born in 1907, was a schoolteacher in the days when they weren't legally allowed to be married, and was just a good person, generally. I've forgotten what the cat did to antagonize her, but her comment shocked me so much that I still remember it, after 54 of my 60 years.
But this diary is about cats. I love cats, and have one now, plus a dog. And I have a pet door, to save the effort of having to clean up or let them out. This is really a pretty simple post to caution anyone with a pet door to avoid female cats, spayed or not. My cat, following her maternal instincts (that's how they teach their kittens to hunt), loves to bring living things inside my house. I found a tree frog today inside my oven. It was very helpful and managed to put itself in a position where I could take it outside. I've found lizards, birds, mice and rats inside, when there is no other access for them. I've been told cats will bring snakes (of all kinds) inside. When I do find a mouse or rat inside (the birds I try to rescue), I call my dog, Lucy. She is an excellent mouser, and quickly captures them and takes them outside to eat.
I didn't have that problem with male cats, cut or not. So if you do have a pet door, and living creatures outside it, you might want to be cautious about getting a female cat. I do hope this diary is not interpreted as a sexist rant, as I only mean to caution about female cats with access to a pet door. With a little tribute to Mom, whom I still love.
