Obama has co-opted the Republican strategy of speaking of values, while McCain talks about 10 point plans. Pray the "experts" can't change their strategies and we will see victory in November.
For eight years, pundits and Democratic strategists have debated why working Americans voted against their interests and sent a Republican to the White House. In a twist of the same debate we now hear complaints that Obama has not told us what he stands for — yet voters, first time and otherwise, are flocking to him.
The answer to those questions is the same. Democrats foundered with 10 point plans while the Republicans talked about values. People vote not for a good plan, but for someone who they feel they know and trust. Obama touches the heart of voters, young and old. He stimulates either devotion (in the center and left) or fear (on the right).
The beauty of this year, is the reversal. McCain only talks about plans, Obama talks about values.
Be touched. Be enthused. Be a first time voter. This is the year when all that comes together.
More than the young are feeling inspired to do something new (vote). The turn out during the primary evidences that. This is the year for the true silent majority, those who don’t vote, to roar, to make their voices heard, to vote.
