Yep, that's the former campaign manager of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Although largely unsuccessful as a campaign manager and possibly leaving a bad taste in some of Hillary's supporters mouths, I think Patti Solis Doyle will be a great asset to team Obama, and as former HRC supporter, see it as a great unity move.
The sticky part? Ben Smith notes:
She'll be "chief of staff to the vice presidential candidate – whoever he (or she) will be, campaign officials said,"
Though this will stir speculation that she's paving the way for Hillary, but it actually makes me think hte opposite. Clinton fired her in February ,and many of her backers view Solis Doyle as a bit of a traitor for having signaled that she'd move to Obama before the primary was over.
Ben Smith
I like his analysis, but I think there is more to it...
LIke I said, I think Solis Doyle will be a great asset, but among all this speculation about Hillary as V.P, though it has decreased, is putting the former Clinton campaign manager as Chief of Staff to the VEEP a good idea?
I think it can be, but it does have some downfalls.
For instance, it could continue to fuel speculation about whether he will pick Hillary, and if this was a sign of testing the waters for picking her or something to that effect.
She not only has run HillPac, Hillary's Political Action Committee, but has been extremely close to HRC since Bill first ran in 1992 and she got "stuck" as aide to the wife, if she only knew what that would have meant back then eh?
Another thing is that this could be seen as a hostile move if he doesn't pick Hillary. Picking her campaign manager to 'manage' someone else as VP when there is a desire, or even need for some to have Hillary on the ticket can be seen as a slap in the face. (I never thought HRC would be the best VP pick so I'm certainly not one of these)
But aside from the problems it could cause, maybe I should stop being a pessimist and recognize the good. I think there is alot there as well. She has had an interesting story with Hillary, and if someone SO close to her can make a high profile move working for Obama, I think it could help. She is also a strong latina who has been profiled in latino magazines and papers in the past, she can be a great asset potentially to helping the Latino community in getting to know Barack Obama. I say, GO PATTI!
I suggest this little piece about her:
