Nan took Impeachment off the table before Dems even had won a thing in 2006. It has all the appearance of a "deal" and goes a very long way in explaining her commitment to protecting Bush and his illegal policies.
Thank God for Dennis Kucinich.
Kucinich: Impeachment Not "Off the Table"
"Back in October of 2006 ... the Democratic leaders, expecting that they would be in a position of being in charge of the Congress, when asked about impeachment, said no. So, what happened is the tone was set early on that impeachment would be off the table even before the Democrats took over.
The problem is that such an approach unwittingly licensed misconduct and violations of US and international law. This was not very well thought out by Congressional leaders. Because the inaction has nullified the historical role - the constitutionally mandated role - of separation of powers and checks and balances. Two years ago it was too early ... now it's too late. The only question that should be asked is did he violate the law? The answer to that question is yes."
Dennis is a lot more politie in his assessment of their actions than I am.
Impeach or appease.
I know the "smart people who are invested in opposing holding Team Bush accountable for anything" want a third choice: Bush and many of his cabinet could and should just be hauled off to jail. Unceremoniously.
That would work too.
Murder is as good a charge as any. Murder IS bad, after all.
Hundred of people tortured to death by Team Bush staff and orders
NADLER: Colonel Wilkerson, in your prepared testimony, you write that "as I compiled my dossier for Secretary Powell, and as I did further research, and as my views grew firmer and firmer I had to reread that memo (of February 7, 2002), "I needed to balance in my own mind the overwhelming evidence that my own government had sanctioned abuse and torture, which at its worse had led to the murder of 25 detainees and at least 100 detainee deaths. We have murder at least 25 people in detention. That was the clear low point [lower end of the range] of the evidence." Your testimony said 100 detainees have died in detention; do you believe the 25 of those were in effect murdered?
WILKERSON: Mr. Chairman, I think the number’s actually higher than that now. Last time I checked it was 108, and the total number that were declared homicides by the military services, or by the CIA, or others doing investigations, CID, and so forth — was 25, 26, 27.
NADLER: Were declared homicides?
WILKERSON: Right, starting as early as December 2001 in Afghanistan.
NADLER: And these were homicides committed by people engaged in interrogations?
WILKERSON: Or in guarding prisoners, or something like that. People who were in detention.
NADLER: They were in detention, not trying to escape or anything, declared homicides by our own authorities.
Appeasers are complicit with torture and murder described there specifically because they REFUSE to do anything but sit idly by as these people are maimed, tortured and killed.
It's happening right now while they are wringing their hands over some stupid poll. But appeasers are more interested in political nonsense than helping real people.
But even more than refuse to do anything, they work to PREVENT others from getting the right things done. They WANT Bush to not be held accountable for all manner of irrational ideologies. It's like a form of superstition or something.
Impeachmentphobia.
Action aversion.
Whatever.
People are still being killed and tortured in YOUR name and have no hope because you are so committed to NOT trying to stop it. (Please - for the Love of God, don't start harping about the next election cycle.)
Right Now.
ALL that has to be done is to ask: Did Bush commit A crime?
It's so simple.
Real appeasers know the answer to that one. They have to know the answer in order to even begin the appeasement process.
But, just in case, I'll help.
The answer is a giant, flashing, neon YES.
Thank you Dennis Kucinich.
