Scott McClellan is about to tesitfy about the Iraq War and CIA Leak Case. Say what you want about Scott McClellan, he's trying to publicize his book, repair his image, or totally disavow any knowledge of what happened...
but this is always promising to see a former West Wing Employee speaking under oath.
However, given that it is Friday don't you feel that this story will be a NON issue with the American people by about, umm..4:00pm. Its Friday. Washington Media Dump Day. A getaway day. Average people, not us junkies, are not even going to hear about this probably Sunday. These types of stories need the FULL attention span of all American people, informed or political neophytes.
Remember back in the infamous Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas sexual harrassment hearings. Anita Hill gave her testimony while Americans were at work, while Thomas gave a "compelling, convincing" testimony, pulling on the heart strings of Americans, PRIMETIME TV. It made no difference what the facts were, Republicans got what they wanted and women and Democrats got the shaft. Thomas exonerated, on the Supreme Court, and one more vote closer to overturning, "that of which we shall not speak"
Im all for fairness in media, but sometimes you have to manipulate the cycle in order to gain public opinion, valid or not. Imagine this. This story should have been teased today, all Saturday and on all the Sunday shows then..BOOM!!!. Monday night, 8pm, summer time, nothing new on TV so the majors and cable news pick it up and the average Joe Lunchpail finally gets to say for himself, "That guy worked for Bush, he's under oath, he says Bush is telling lies".
Its not like the Democrats dont know how to do this, just check the all-important, world-changing, farce known as the Baseball Steroid Hearings with McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero and Mitchell Report last winter.
