Honorable Representatives and Senators,
First of all, thank you all for your continued work on behalf of our nation.
I write this letter, not as just a constituent or a resident of CA-12, but as a world citizen who is concerned for the future of America, and with it, the future of humankind as a whole.
House Concurrent Resolution 362, which calls for a blockade of Iran, appears to be moving swiftly through the House, and it no doubt has its cousin in the Senate. I strongly urge all of you to stop for a moment and consider the repercussions.
Such legislation amounts to throwing the first blow in what will become another ill-conceived war with no exit strategy and countless lives lost on both sides, and we already have more of those than we can handle at the moment. And for what? Our own intelligence community have stated that Iran is not a threat and they have not violated any IAEA rules. Starving them of supplies needed to run the country will only serve to turn those who are friendly toward us against us and will likely have a severe impact on the citizenry, rather than the leaders it is intended against.
I know that, at times in the course of your legislative career, sometimes you all have to make unpopular votes to help keep the nation safe. In this case, though, supporting this will make not only our nation less safe, but it will only further serve to destabilize the Middle East, thereby making the world less safe.
Thank you for your time and for your effort on behalf of our nation. I look forward to hearing about you doing the right thing on this.
Cheers,
-ipp
