After today's capitulation on FISA and Obama's lack of leadership on the issue, I've made up my mind. I won't donate a cent to him.
If he can't fight for the people here, how do I know he'll fight for the people when he's President?
If he can't stand up for the Constitution now, how do I know he'll stand up for the Constitution later?
He promised me he'd fight for the people. He promised me he'd hold Bush and the telecoms accountable. He supported Dodd's courageous filibuster many months ago. And now he's caved - he's thrown up a good chunk of our 4th Amendment rights in order to put himself in a better position with the Congressmen who drafted this shameful legislation.
He didn't offer change and hope today, he offered more of the same, and his earlier promise of change, his earlier call that "yes we can" make a difference rings empty.
So if he's not going to fight for me, I'm okay with not fighting for him. I'm going to spend my money on downticket races to support better Democrats who took principled stands when the chips were down, who weren't afraid of the likes of Steny Hoyer and George Bush.
What a disappointment.
EDIT - Notice I didn't say anything about voting - my vote is a preference of one candidate over another. Growing up in Arizona I could never vote for John McCain. I know the trouble he brings. My diary was just an observation that I think my money is better spent elsewhere. Feel free to disagree and donate away.
