While Barack Obama was criticized by the media for perhaps speaking with the Canadian Government over NAFTA, and it should be noted that much of what was reported was either flat out untrue, or at best hearsay even though it was reported as fact, on Friday John McCain spoke at a $2000 dollar a plate luncheon in Ottawa declaring free trade is here to stay. For McCain, for some reason, this issue doesn't seem newsworthy like it was for Obama.
McCain's visit raises many questions about the purpose of his visit. I will talk about his reasons given, and reflect upon the real reasons for his visit and just who took out the time to fly across the country to see John McCain.
On Friday June 20th, John McCain flew to Ottawa to speak at a luncheon for 2000 dollars a plate, and very limited seating, only 400 people were there.

What is laughable is that McCain said the purpose of his visit was not political, but to thank Canadians for their support.
"This is not a political campaign trip," the presumed Republican nominee told reporters, adding that he has a responsibility to travel abroad as a U.S. senator and a member of the armed services committee. "This is a visit to thank the government and people of Canada for their enormous contributions to our friendship, to our relations, to trade, to our economy and to the defence of freedom in the world."
Now I doubt the reason for McCain's visit was exclusively to thank Canadians for their support. According to a Decima poll Obama has the support of 55% of Canadians, while John McCain scores a whopping 15%, and really why would John McCain care, Canadian can't vote.
This event could not have been a spontaneous event to thank Canadians, many in attendance were big corporate heads who flew across the country to have lunch with the Republican Nominee. Among those in attendance were people from the world's biggest polluters, the Tar Sands.
From the Globe and Mail, "Here's Johnny! Monologue was city's hot-ticket event"; Jane Taber
So Special was there to see Mr.McCain event that tables were-$2000 for some and $5000 for premium tables-sold out in 10 minutes, according to Mike Adler, the president of the Economic Club of Canada, which put on the event.
Guests were not issued invitations, but were told to show up 30 minutes before the lunch, present picture identification and be checked off their invitations and table numbers.
Such a draw there was an entire plane load of Mike Harris Tories came in for lunch from Toronto; there were oil and gas men from Alberta and business people from Saskatchewan.
I can honestly say, being from Saskatchewan that those business people were from the Uranium Mining Company, Areva. So we can now say that John McCain has the backing from the Uranium industry and the World's worst polluter the Tar Sands. To learn about how bad the tar sands really are you can go here:

So John McCain is raising money from Canada's biggest bad boys, and perhaps even pandering to their needs for greed. I wonder why the US media has not said much about this, for I am sure those in Ohio and Pennsylvania and across the United States would like to know what John McCain is doing in Canada while trying to run for the Presidency, so I decided to write this diary. If anyone in the Media is reading this, please tell me why you are not reporting on this issue.
Update: DNC files Freedom of Information Request regarding the event.
