No you didn't misread that. A Global Strat Group Poll released a couple hours ago has McCain and Obama in a statistical tie in Alaska.
The poll gives the choices of Obama, McCain, and Barr (who is on the ballot in AK).
McCain 44
Obama 42
Barr 3
One caveat is that the poll was conducted by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, so take it for what you will. But AK being competitive in JUNE is saying a lot. With the money Obama has, it could leave Obama supporters doling out more fist pounds than Fox News can mischaracterize.
Chris Cillizza blogs about the poll via WaPo dotcom.
Among other insights, he relays that
In 2004, President George W. Bush won 61 percent in Alaska compared with just 35.5 percent for John Kerry. Four years earlier, Bush won 59 percent to 28 percent over Al Gore.
Furthermore:
Back in 2004, as Bush was winning the state by 26 points, newly appointed Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) was in a extremely tight race with former governor Tony Knowles...Murkowski beat Knowles 48.6 percent to 45.5 percent.
It's going to be a fun year folks.
