Thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys have been great. NFTT has achieved it's primary goal of $10,000. That money will allow us to send the big ticket items. However, now we need to send the packages to a person. To do that we need names, lots of names. Our preference would be to send the packages to a member of the Armed Forces who has a Netroots/Dkos connection. Our default resource will be AnySoldier/Marine/Sailor/Airmen.com. Sending 101 Care Packages to guys/gals with a connection to us would make even more special. So, reach back into your memory and see if you have anyone related to you (that includes neighbors, church etc) that will be stationed in Afghanistan or Iraq Theatres in August.
Before I go any further, did I mention, WE NEED NAMES. If you have one send it to the following email address katroshp at bellsouth (that's dot net domain).
Now, in case you didn't get that, WE NEED NAMES. Along with their name we need rank, unit, APO and their sizes for insoles, gloves and underwear. And this includes the women.
Also, do you know someone who owns a CD or video store, small book store, clothing store, hardware store or other retail operation? Why not see if they'd be willing to donate 100 used CDs or DVDs, novels, pairs of underwear, or small flashlights to include in the care packages?
Holy Moley! After yesterday's diary by anotherdemocrat, we brought in an additional $1,770, bringing us up to $12,225
While we're determined to having these highly desired but relatively costly items go into every package...
* A pair of Mechanix™ gloves
* A 550-minute long-distance calling card
* A pair of boot replacement gel insoles
* A micro LED flashlight
... we're also looking for donations of many other simple sundry items that we take for granted but that are impossible to get in the field:
Cotton socks Men's and women's cotton underwear
CDs and DVDs Tampons and sanitary napkins
Foot powder Crossword / puzzle / sudoku books
Q-tips Paperback books
Shampoo Sketchbooks and pencils
Conditioner Paper and envelopes
Tissues Individually packaged sports drink mixes
Body wash Microwave popcorn
Lotion Licorice
Lip balm / Chapstick Gum and mints
Disposable razors Meat jerky
Rather than needing to commit the funds we're raising to these items, see if a local shopkeeper can donate them.
Bring stuff yourself.
Are you coming to Netroots Nation? Why not pack a few recently released DVDs, CDs, paperbacks or protein bars in your luggage and bring the items to our table in the Exhibit Hall? Get your coworkers to bring stuff listed in idea #4 and pack your carryon luggae with those items. The thought here is that you'll be bringing home a bunch of stuff from the congference, so why not create space on the trip home in your luggage by filling it with stuff you're bringing to the conference for the care package-wrapping seminar on Saturday afternoon? Another thought is to bring your own soap and shampoo from home, then collect the wrapped soap, shampoo and conditioner bottles from your hotel room and bring them down each morning. That's three care packages-worth by Saturday morning, and more importantly, three packages we won't need to buy items for.
Not attending NN'08? Leave us a note in the comments (or send Timroff an email at the address in Timroff's profile) and we'll give you an address you can ship your donations to in Austin so we can include them in the care packages.
OMT (one more thing), we're still accepting monetary donations too. The additional funds will allow us to make sure all the packages are filled to the max with as many goodies as we can stuff into the boxes. Click hereto make a cash donation.
Now it's on with the MOJO FRIDAY SHOW.
Mojo Friday Guidelines
- If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to recieve mojo you have to give mojo. It's only good mojo manners.)
- Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
- You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
- You don't have to comment to recommend.
- You can't steal my idea (right, like that ain't goin' to happen)
- Please, no pictures or YouTubes until after 300 comments
- Mojo mojo mojo mojo, mojo mojo mojo
Mojo Friday Goals
A. at least 300 different commenters and 1000 comments by 1:30 PM EST and 1500 by 5:00 PM EST Friday Night that it's posted.
B. 100 recommends for each comment, at least.
C. Stay on Recommend List at least five hours (this requires some strategic planning by you guys, refer to guideline #3)
D. At least 200 diary recommends. 300 would be better, spread the word.
E. And always, fun fun fun.
F. Have at least 75% average participation rate as seen here in the Mojo Friday Postgame Show by goffnews.
G. (New) Have at least 30 kossacks over 90% participation (see here for some tips).
H. Overload the servers with recommends, not to mention dominate Top Comments Mojo list. (we do tend to mess with the site with all of our recommends at one time)(also, to dominate the Top Comments Top Mojo we need at least 50 comments with over 100 recommends, see guideline B)
I. That's enough for now. (Have a suggestion? Post it.)
MKinTN posted a diary to help everyone achieve greater success called How to Succeed at Mojo Friday Without Really Trying.
