It seems to me that people on the anti-war left are so unhappy about the Iraq war because they believe they were not told the truth about what the true motive was. But what does the anti-war left believe the true motive was. There are two camps. Those who believe the war was motivated by a desire to dominate oil, and those who who believe the war was was motivated by a desire to protect Israel, but which view point is stronger among anti-war liberals?
More below:
People who believe the war was motivated by oil have a lot of circumstantial evidence. Bush is from oil rich Texas. Cheney is from the oil business. Condi had an oil tanker named after her.
Others believe Bush, Cheney and Rice were just puppets, and the Iraq war was motivated by a desire to protect Israel because if Sadam ever did get WMDs it would be a huge threat to such a small country which he had already fired scud misiles at, and even if he didn't, Saddam was still using his massive wealth to fund Palestinian suicide bombers. These people argue that the war was pushed by neocons, Lieberman, the media, AIPAC the New York Times, and other groups that anti-semites stereotype as Jewish. Of course what these people forget is that a lot of Jewish Americans like Chomsky (who insists the war was about oil) opposed the war. Indeed no one did more to try to stop the war than Jewish senator Carl Levin who proposed the Levin Ammendment which required Bush to get UN backing before going to war. If congress had passed that, there almost certainly would not have been a war, as Bush would not have had the authority to just ignore the UN.
