Sitting here and waiting for what ever the new Swift Boaters come up with has got me thinking, - what would be an easy way to counter attack? I read how the GOP is desperately trying to re-brand itself, and I think of silly images, like putting lipstick on an elephant. National polls confirm that the GOP brand is way out of touch with the American people, so why not just attack the GOP Brand?
The GOP is Bush, Cheney, Foley, Larry Craig, Ted Stevens, Jack Abramoff, the Bug Man (hammered), Irving Lewis Libby Jr, Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, and every member of congress that supported the government of the last 7½ years.
I can think of a few topics that make great sound bites:
Republicans want to get rid of Social Security.
Republicans hate poor children - they are against health care insurance SCHIP.
Republicans promote phony science and hamper the USA's stature and competition in global scientific world.
Republicans want women to get illegal abortions.
Republicans want to limit and forbid access to birth-control and disease prevention for you and your children.
Republicans want Americans to be torturers.
Republicans do not support our troops.
Republicans trash the institution of marriage by cheating on their spouses, by having gay sex, and prey on children, and then try to cover it up.
Republicans have lied the country into war. They believe that lying to the American people is justified because they are above the law.
Republicans out CIA agents, just to be vindictive.
Republicans are corrupt, and get support (jobs) from the media like Fox News.
I'm sure that you can think of more. Every Democratic candidate and spokesperson should make a list of all these atrocities, and use them every time they are asked to comment about anything the new Republican Swift boat talking points get repeated.
Voters need to be told the actual policies that John McCain and Republicans stand for. They can't run from being the Republican candidates. The mainstream media will not bring these points up by themselves, so our people have to do it.
It reminds me of every time Michael Jordan got interviewed, no matter what the first question was asked, he'd always start off buy saying something like - First of all, I'd like to say that my teammates played great, and gave an effort that showed they are true champions. - He always got in what he wanted to say.
Our people need to have ready replies like - First of all, I'd like to say, that Republicans are corrupt and lie to the American people and John McCain wants to have Roe v Wade overturned, but as to you original question ....
