Ah the hypocrisy of the Republican and right spin machine. After General Clark's comment and then Representative Jim Webb's interview on Countdown, they're up in arms, claiming that there's a smear attack against McCain's service record. Oh good, freaking grief, where is the shovel?
First off, I had seen both the Clark and Webb interview and neither one had anything disparaging to say about McCain's service record, in fact, they lauded him as a hero. Yet of course, they have to find something to spin against the Democratic party, and this one seems to be the one that may just draw the ire of the American citizens, right? I'm still looking for my shovel because it's getting deep from the fake indignation.
Here's a question from someone who saw the antics from the Bush "surrogate" team in South Carolina in the 2000 Republican Primaries to the Republican spin machine wanting to spin this in McCain's favor...
Where were you?
What a difference eight years make. If I recall, Bush supporters were planting ideas and questioning whether John McCain's experience as a POW might produce flashbacks and be somewhat detrimental to his judgement as President. Aren't you happy that it worked? Yet now it's because of his being a POW that makes him qualified to be President? (Note to passengers, barf bags are located in the pocket in the seat in front of you).
Oh yes and let's not forget the outrage you expressed when they were actually attacking John Kerry's service record. Oh wait, you were leading the charge.
Where was the outrage when they attacked Jack Murtha on the house floor and questioned his service record and his purple hearts, after he called for a plan to bring the troops home from Iraq.
Now you're outraged because two men who NEVER disparaged McCain's service chose to comment on McCain's qualifications for President. Give me a freaking break. Neither attacked McCain's service record, unlike the spin machine and the talking heads of the right, to include Limbaugh and Colter. Yeah, it wasn't okay to call out Petreus but it was okay for Limbaugh, your water carrier, to refer to Jack Murtha as a phony soldier.
Oh wait, now that McCain's your candidate, it's not okay. It's an egregious assault. Seriously, this makes me physically ill with the hypocrisy. It made me ill in 2000 when they did this to McCain, it made me ill when they did this to Kerry, it made me ill when they did it to Murtha and every soldier and veteran who stood up and spoke out against the Iraq war.
As a veteran, I detest when there's an attempt to twist and disparage a soldier or veterans service record for political gain. I'll cry foul as loud as you want, but when the Bush and Republican spin machine allowed it because it was beneficial to your cause, don't come back with your pretentious outrage on a disparagement that never occurred. You've reaped what you've sown.
(I think a shovel isn't going to be big enough for this job).
