Two days ago FOX News responded to some reporting on their dive in the ratings. They did it by attacking the reporter and his producer, but they did it in a way that was, quite simply, blatantly anti-Semitic.
The reporter in question is named Jacques Steinberg. Yup, "Steinberg." He might as well have been named "Jacques the Jew." And FOX, looking for a way to attack him, knew exactly what to do. Here is a picture of Mr. Steinberg, next to the picture FOX showed on their show:
Do you see anything different? Did you notice the grossly enlarged nose and the lowered hairline? Does it ring any bells? It should. ...
[UPDATE- this is getting noticed around the blogosphere. The National Jewish Democratic Council noticed the same thing.
Have you ever seen cartoons like this before?
How about this one?
Is it looking familiar yet? Do you want some more? We have seen these before. We saw them sixty years ago:
Did you notice that the constant motif is not just big noses (and not just hooked noses, but bulbous ones as well), but also a lot of hair and thickened lower lips? Why is that, you might ask. It has to do with the theme of Jews as animals, as subhuman. The Nazis understood the value of such propaganda:
And in our own times, so do the Arabs:
The Arabs continue the motif of hair and big noses:
Look at that one again. Take away the beard, look at the big bulbous nose, the enlarged bottom lip and the big chin. Then look again at what FOX did with Steinberg's picture:
Is it all looking familiar yet?
There are about a million ways to caricature anybody in the world. For some reason known only to them, FOX News decided the way to caricature somebody named "Steinberg" was to reanimate the ugliest anti-Semitic cartoons. Does anybody in the world think this was an accident?
I don't.
