The AP is reporting that Obama may decide to move his acceptance speech outside, from the convention hall to Denver's new Invesco field.
I think this is an amazing idea and my imagination stirs when I consider the excitement and the media images that would result from such a move. Plus, JFK gave his speech outdoors at the LA Memorial Coliseum in 1960. The parallels are obvious.
Can you imagine over 75,000 super-enthusiastic supporters cheering him on? McCain couldn't even fill such a stadium and Obama will probably have them lined up outside, filling the stadium to overflowing!
DENVER (AP) — Barack Obama's campaign is considering having him accept the Democratic presidential nomination at Invesco Field at Mile High instead of the Pepsi Center, the chosen site for the Democratic National Convention, two people with knowledge of convention planning said Thursday.
The two spoke on condition of anonymity because nothing has been confirmed.
Obama campaign spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said no decisions have been made.
Representatives for the convention host committee and Mayor John Hickenlooper declined to comment or said they did not know about the proposal. Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Waak did not return a telephone message seeking comment.
Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman Natalie Wyeth said, "There's nothing to announce."
The convention will be held Aug. 25-28 at the Pepsi Center, with Obama scheduled to accept the Democratic presidential nomination on the final night, which also is the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in 1963.
Obama would be the first black nominee of a major political party.
The Pepsi Center's Web site says it can hold 21,000 people for special events. Invesco Field at Mile High, where the Denver Broncos play, seats more than 76,000.
Imagine these seat filled with proud Americans!
The ming boggles when you consider what the "blimp" shots would look like.
And, after the speech there could be fireworks!
Several thousand more people could be seated on the field.
So, what do you think? Should we take it outside?
