Time is a funny thing
So there are pretty large factions forming (or already formed) here at DailyKos. The first being absolute defenders of the constitution and their battle for killing the FISA immunity bill. The other consist of people who see the FISA bill as a evil but needed compromise (capitulation also works) that sadly must happen. I have been reading story after story of how this is a deal breaker for one side and not a blip on the radar for the other. Interesting to say the least.
So I started to think, are both factions like the Empire versus the Rebel Alliance (Non-Star Wars geeks, please forgive me for a moment). Could both of these groups co-exist or would they be in constant battle until one is destroyed, and ultimately "forced" off the DailyKos. My finally conclusion is NO. The two factions are much more like two sections of the Rebel Alliance, both pushing Luke and the team in the direction that they want them to go. So when I thought of it like that I could truly see all of us reuniting for the great fight in the end. No Matter What.
We can all agree that the FISA issue is not an ideal one. Neither faction is going to change their view on it, nor should they have to. The calls for purity trolls and appeasers are foolish, and even I am guilty of this from time to time. We, as progress, have fought hard and long to get an intelligent candidate of our own on the ballot for the big show. So while I am for the voicing of opinions in the matters of FISA, Gen. Wesley Clark, and even the overblown and falsely reacted abortion statement by Obama I have to wonder when does time run out for this. The netroots has spent the last 4 weeks or so, yelling that their guy is not doing the right thing. I think we have all realized this a 1000 times over. He is just a man, and he will make mistakes. He should be held to a high standard and criticized when he does not meet those standards. However, when do we take that criticism and aim it at what truly deserves a spotlight. These last 4 weeks have felt like the 2+ months after McCain was crown the presumptive nominee and no one was looking at him because Hillary and Obama were beating the crap out of each other. I remember reading dairy after diary about how the media needs to concentrate on McCain and his mistakes. The outrage at how he was getting a nice free ride was more than apparent here on DailyKos.
So I say to all of you, fight more if you must, but ask yourselves...When do you stop fighting and pay attention to what Emperor(or Voldermort for your Harry Potter fans) is doing. The election will not be close if some real light is shined on McCain and his record. However this light can not be shined if we are to busy battling our own guy. Never give your guy a free ride either. He deserves to be under scrutiny as well. However, McCain is once again sitting back and enjoying a month of gaffes for free. Lets take all that anger that has been bubbling at the surface and focus it where it needs to be.
