A continuation of intesting stories about my family. Aunt Marie, Jade and I all had red hair. Can you imagine the three of us travelling together? Each of us wanted to be in charge.
So, Jade, Marie and I went over the Alps from Italy to Switzerland, after an overnight stay in Corinna d'Ampezzo, where the bathroom got flooded. I was driving, thank goodness. Aunt Marie was in the back seat, drinking white wine. Marie hated high places. Sister Jade was crouching with her head on her lap. To spare them misery, I drove as fast as I could. That's why they refused to look up. Mighty scenic, the Italian Alps.
The first town in Austria was Lienz. We had brunch there, and changed our money. Jade decided to order the schecken bourgnougn (sp?), reasoning that this must be a snack featuring a hamburger. Mmmm. Not so much. The waiter seemed surprised at the order. Turns out that this was snails in burgundy sauce. I gave her half of my breakfast, she gave me half of hers.
Marie just had wine. She was in no mood for solid food.
Eventually, we got to Salzburg, but Jade was driving. She'd had enough of my antics. Boring. By then, the playing-field was rather smooth. Still, Austria is very pretty, even in the flat spots.
The thing about Salzburg: Sis (Marie) still had her jug of wine, and was very drunk by the time we reached Salzburg. This caused many problems.
I think I've written about those problems before - Sis staggering into the tourist office, etc. My next diary will feature Innsbruck, after Marie flew away from Salzburg. Whew. Jade and I were on our own. From then on, Jade drove. She refused to get in the car unless she could drive.
More later.
