Over the past week or so, I’ve been informed in numerous comments here that if Obama loses, it will be "the fault of me and people like me" for daring to try and hold him the smallest bit accountable for not supporting a filibuster and doing all that he himself, as a "change" and "believe in me, believe in us" candidate, could have done to stop this monstrosity of a bill from being passed in the Senate.
I’ve also been told that I am giving talking points to the media and the republicans or "doing the republicans work for them". I’ve been accused of being a troll who will help elect McCain, despite close to 50 diaries that look very poorly on McCain.
And I’ve also been told that every minute not spent working to elect Obama is a minute wasted - thus rendering the 2 dozen Congressional candidate interviews that we have done since March and the work on my local Congressional race wasted time.
So, I guess this is all my fault, and if that is the case, I might as well fess up to some other things that are also my fault.
It’s my fault that the press is sucking up to McCain as he is sucking up to them while Obama (or the Democratic leadership) hasn’t been able to set the narrative. And it is also my fault that the Clinton campaign planted many of these seeds, while being cheered on by so many fellow Democrats. And on that same token, it is my fault that she lost the primary because I said some not so nice things about her and gave Karl Rove some more talking points - so to the non-Clinton supporters, you’re welcome for that.
It’s my fault that most of the country is opposed to telecom immunity or many of the provisions in the FISA bill, the Protect America Act, the Patriot Act, yet Congress still rushed them through. And it’s my fault that most of Congress didn’t even read what was in the bills they voted for - over the desires of those who they are supposed to represent.
And it’s my fault that Harry Reid even let a bill like this get brought to the floor, or constantly gets outmaneuvered (willfully or not) by Mitch frickin McConnell. And it’s also my fault that impeachment was taken off the table no more than 15 seconds after "the new Congress in town" said that subpoena power was key to accountability. Or that Rove and Miers and Bolton are still walking around freer than the rest of Americans despite ignoring subpoenas and being held in contempt of Congress.
To which there has been no accountibility.
Not finding bin Laden - in fact letting him escape - that was my bad advice to Rumsfeld. Consistently voting for hundreds of billions in Iraq funding with no strings attached (and that includes the anti-Iraq candidate too). The current 9% approval rating for Congress?
All my fault.
And I was the one who personally made all 20,000+ members of the MyBarackObama group join and express their feelings about this bill - whether they were Obama supporters (which most of them were) or not. The fact that many loud and prominent and well respected people in the progressive blogosphere, not to mention the ACLU are livid about this is also my fault (and yes, if you go ANYWHERE other than Daily Kos or MyBarackObama, you will see for yourself).
So sorry for all of it. I really didn’t mean it.
After all, it just sort of happened to turn out that way....
