Fellow Americans, here’s an honest look at our two choices for president. Tonight, McCain. Tomorrow night, Obama. Let’s pretend it’s a front porch discussion, over lemonade. Hear me out, then make yourself heard!
"We can’t afford the McCain Mistake. We're already dead broke."
It's plain to me that we can't afford McCain for our international reputation and for the sake of our financial present and future. It's bad policy on top of bad policy.
FINANCIAL FAUX PAUX
1)McCain wants to make Bush's tax cuts for the rich permanent, and 2) he also sees no haste in ending our billion-dollar-a-month presence in Iraq, and 3) John McCain wants to relax restrictions on large US companies benefiting from out-sourced labor. How is that good for any of us here?Of course, he makes no mention of the tax dollars flowing uncontrollably on no-bid contracts that have such lax oversight the Pentagon can't account for a trillion yes, T dollars it's spent.
Instead, that money should be spent HERE on infrastructure projects and mortgage breaks for the poor and working class before we end up with a catastrophic rate of homelessness! We should be reversing the decline of our shaky economy by investing in new small businesses here that would employ people on Main Street USA. (Makes me wonder if McCain's vision for us all to be living out of the SUVs we can't afford to fill up with gasoline?)
DIPLOMATIC DEBACLE
4)McCain says nothing of making diplomatic efforts before settling the score with countries we have had strained relationships with. Shot first, ask questions later. "Whoops, that wasn't your smoking gun? My bad." And no mention of improving our image abroad –- fighting terrorism ideologues --by actually HELPING the long-suffering people of Afghanistan with education, NGO support, and feasible alternatives to opium cash crops. "No no. I'm planning a long, unending war. Don't ask for details, Press Corp! Hush!"
SEND HIM BACK! WAYYY BACK!
Now, McCain once used to stand for straight-talking, honesty, and compassion for military personnel -- on both sides of any international conflict, no less. He was held captive in Vietnam, he knew the potential consequences all to well. He was a man who actually reflected on his life, listened to his conscience, and defended the Geneva convention. His humanity poked its head out when the story of water-boarding (aka simulating drowning) first hit the news, and he spoke freely from his conscience. He was against it. That’s a glimpse of the former McCain. But he soon shut his conscience off, when the GOP told him he was wrong, and his response wasn't in line with their terrorism paranoia agenda. So he reversed his position! "No, that ain't torture. Ain't like they're really drowing." Those days of crossing the country by bus and telling it like it really is are long gone. Something fundamentally changed in McCain, and it’s like that old horror movie Attack of the Body Snatchers. The new McCain flies around in corporate-owned-jet to promote his presidential campaign (which is cheating!). He has gone from standing up for his beliefs to a total drone! He is a lap dog of the GOP! He is not that respectable statesman anymore in my eyes. Can I get some Men In Black to check which galaxy he's from? And please, can we send him back?
ROLL OVER, JOHNNY BOY!
The old McCain was calling for Campaign Finance Reform back in his straight talk days. What a hero! Why? Because how campaigns for public office seats are paid for fundamentally controls who is elected, and in turn, what laws govern our nation. Yes, the old McCain was not afraid of the GOP sacred cow. Now? He cheats the rules that are ALREADY too tilted in favor of corporate donors and the wealthy contributors. Which, you know, only give them control over the lives and hard-earned tax dollars of the rest of us. What do I see when I look at him? I see a man grabbing for his last chance to be president, not for the sake of what's best for our nation, but purely because it’s a last chance at a shiny toy. He’s jealous because the lesser-qualified G.W. Bush got to play president for 8 years, and that’s not fair! Boo-hoo! So what has he done? Only sold his soul to the GOP-- the very body he used to contradict and question for because of their shaky ethics and policies! (Neighbors, can’t you see that McCain sold us out over his ego?)
SAY IT AIN'T SO, SENTATOR ?!
And certainly not least, Mr. McCain scares me to pieces on behalf of our fellow Muslims and LGBT and Jewish citizens because of these crazy fundamentalist preachers he follows, like John Haggee and Rod Parsley. These two bigotted hate-spouters would both gladly "rid the earth" of all Muslims, innocent women, children, good tax-paying and law abiding America citizens alike. They openly believe it is America’s "manifest destiny" to do so. That is certain brand of highly toxic extremism no civilized nation on ought to humour. That is a level, in fact, of hate speech, that harkens back to a certain infamous massacre. Oh, and remember, McCain sought out endorsements from these hate mongers!! With McCain, the bad solidly out weighs the good. And considering the deep doo-doo we’re in right now, we can’t afford the top 0.01% taking another dump on us.
