Karl Rove is ignoring the subpeona issued by the House Judiciary Committee.
So again, we arrive in familiar territory with this Administration, open contempt for the separation of powers and a complete lack of concern for the balance of power between Executive, Legislative and Judiciary.
According to CNN
Rove's lawyer asserted that Rove was "immune" from the subpoena the committee had issued, arguing that the committee could not compel him to testify due to "executive privilege."
In essence therefore, the Legislative has no legal channel to check and balance the power of the Executive under this President. What the President says, goes. In fact, the Senate essentially confirmed this very stance in passage of retroactive immunity provisions in this weeks' FISA legislation.
This continues a disturbing trend. This White House has continually prevented proper oversight of its activities, with the Valerie Plame affair, the Energy Task Force, the 9-11 commission report and the selected firing of Federal Attorneys all providing ample evidence of the breakdown of the rule of law in our governance.
This is dangerous territory, and yet, the Legislative will probably back down. Oh how far we have dropped.
