From Men in Black:
"People are smart. They can handle it."
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.
Three years ago I knew I'd be voting for Hilary Clinton. Almost two years ago ago I knew that the Nightmare on Capitol Hill would finally be over.
And then...
Eighteen months ago I found out that despite a majority in Congress, all those people we put in decided their loyalties weren't to their constituents or party but rather to themselves and their GOP masters, and in a replay of 1992 they duly bent themselves -- and us -- over, demanding no lube be used. The leader refused to even discuss impeachment of the most criminal administration in US history.
Seventeen months ago I saw some no-name, first-term upstart from Illinois throw his hat into the candidacy ring and I knew he'd be history inside two months. "Go finish out your damned first term and get a bit more experience," I thought at the time.
Twelve months ago I started hearing clips of Obama's speeches, went to watch them on GooTube and I knew there was a real contender who actually addressed issues and had a seriously good platform. I dared hope.
Eight months ago, thanks to his promise to filibuster an unconstitutional piece of legislation which would gut the Fourth Amendment, I knew that the former Constitutional lawyer would stand up to the GOP and fight for what was right instead of rolling over. I was ecstatic.
Three and a half months ago I knew I was backing the right candidate when I watched the "More Perfect Union" speech half a dozen times in a row. I was awe-struck as I watched every speech over five minutes long and wondered if I wasn't in a dream.
Two months ago I knew there was hope for the US as a candidate, despite the constant attacks on him personally and professionally, did his damndest to avoid going negative against both the opposition candidate and the rival from his own party who did the opposition's work for them. For the first time in my life I would be voting not for the least bad candidate but actually for someone I wanted in the White House.
One week ago I knew what I'd actually known all along: they are all (as Ice-T so eloquently put it) "dumb, dick-sucking, bum politicians."
Today, thanks to MotleyPatriot, I know that a Wisconsin senator who actually understood the ins and the outs of FISA, the ramifications and the all the secret dirt behind it, tried to convince others to block the descecration of liberty and was ignored by a Constitutional lawyer who would right the wrongs of the past eight years.
Imagine what we'll know tomorrow.
All I really know now is that in November I'll once again only be able to choose between a douche bag and a turd.
