John McCain's habit of "forgetting" things has reached a new height, and the MSN is finally starting to take notice. I was over on CNN.com this morning (something I am starting to do less and less), and the headline to the ticket was "Oops! McCain misfires on Obama attack". Earlier this week, John McCain, trying to show that he was tough on terror, the "Straight Talking Maverick (tm)" tore into Obama for not being present in the Senate to vote on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment.
The only problem? McCain also missed that vote.
More below the fold.
From the CNN article
In a statement criticizing Obama’s positions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the organization claiming credit for the missile launches, McCain wrote, "This is the same organization that I voted to condemn as a terrorist organization when an amendment was on the floor of the United States Senate. Senator Obama refused to vote."
The problem with the critique? McCain also missed that vote on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment on September 26, 2007. Records show that Obama was in New Hampshire and McCain was in New York instead of being in the Senate chamber for the vote in question.
John McCain's statement is what we in the reality based community like to call "a lie". Although given John McCain's history, it's quite possible he just forgot that he wasn't there, which he seems to be doing with a lot of things lately.
So either way you look at it, Senator McCain is either a liar, or someone who regularly forgets his own whereabouts.
Take your pick on which one is scarier.
UPDATE: Gchaucer2 makes a great point in the comments about how ridiculous McCain's comment is since has hasn't been present for a single Senate vote in over 3 months. Everyone understands that if you are a Senator running for president, you will be present in the Senate a lot less, but Senator Obama still manages to show up to votes. McCain's skipped votes that Senator Obama attended, even though Barack was in the middle of a heated primary and McCain had already won his nomination.
John McCain should start showing up to work occasionally, or relinquish his Senate seat. He is doing a great disservice to his constituents in Arizona.
