So I won't be in Austin for Netroots Nation, and I'm sure I'm not the only one -- I'm sure there are many of you out there who are thinking, I'd love to go, but because of the time / money / distance, it just wouldn't work out. However, I've found the next best thing -- I will be in Second Life for Netroots Nation!
What, You Say?
With a travel time of 0 minutes, and a decent computer system with broadband access, you too can join us at NNSL -- Netroots Nation in Second Life -- and meet Kossacks and other progressives, see live panels streamed in from Netroots Nation, and join in special SL-only events as well! Interested? Read on and I'll tell you all about it:
Starting Out In Second Life
Second Life (aka 'SL') is an online virtual world; first see that your computer meets the minimum system requirements -- if you have broadband and you bought it in the past couple of years, then you're probably fine. Second, sign up at their website and download the client.
Getting There Is Half The Fun
So you've signed up and you're suffering through orientation island, but if you can't stand it any more, click here because we have our own orientation area already set up for you! If all goes well, you should be in front of the welcome center; follow the arrows to the orientation boards, to the right.
Help!
Stuck, confused, don't know what to do next? We're here for you. Post your questions and feedback in this diary, and meet up with your fellow Kossacks in Second Life. We also have help desks set up in Second Life, where you can easily contact us!
Events
Not only we will be streaming in some of the events from Austin, starting with Gov. Dean's keynote on Thursday the 17th, but we will also be holding our own SL-only events, kicking it off with a concert tomorrow night, now at 4pm SLT (aka PST, California time that is)! Check out the event schedule and the NNinSL blog -- and I'll see you in Second Life!
