The uproar during the last couple of weeks over Barack Obama's apparent "shift" to the center has me wondering how many of his supporters have been paying attention to his message from the start. It also has be wondering whether they are voting for Obama, or simply voting against Bush.
More on the flip side
I'm pretty sure if I hear one more supposed "progressive" whine about Obama's move to the right I'm going to scream.
I have to ask myself what part of unity and compromise do you not understand? Apparently progressives have been hearing what they want from the start and ignoring the rest. APPARENTLY in 2004 it was much easier to hear that we've got some gays in the red states, but some people would like to ignore that he also said we worship an awesome God in the blue states. The whole point of the Obama candidacy is that we all share a common goal, a common cause. Obama hasn't moved to the center, he's ALWAYS been at the center, and as far as I'm concerned that's the best thing about him. All of the arguing and the bickering between the far left and the far right isn't helping anyone. So if you whiny progressives actually believe in the message of hope and unity that Obama has been running his campaign on, why not try proving it by understanding that not everyone agrees with you. Not everyone is going to see things the way that you do. So rather than jump up and down like spoiled brats who haven't gotten their way, why not appreciate the fact that we have a Democratic nominee that ACTUALLY LISTENS to both sides of an issue and THINKS before making a decision. I know this concept is a foreign one at the moment, considering that the last 8 years has been one example after another of quite the opposite.
Progressives need to stop being the Democratic version of Rovian Republicans. If you really want things to get better, if you really want change, then get behind Obama and make change happen. If however you're more concerned with selfishly getting your way 100% of the time, and noting less is ever going to be good enough, then keep going the way you're going and see how many of your "progressive" ideas see the light of day during a McCain presidency.
