Reviewing Politico and a few other sites I noticed several articles referencing several Flag Officers endorsing John McCain.
Something caught my eye as I perused the list. As the spouse of a former senior Naval Officer I've met a significant number of flag officers and I could have sworn I'd seen one of those names before in connection with McCain.
This list provided included:
JAMES B. DAVIS, GENERAL, USAF (RET.)
RONALD J. HAYS, ADMIRAL, USN (RET)
JAMES L. HOLLOWAY, ADMIRAL, USN (RET)
JEROME L. JOHNSON, ADMIRAL, USN, (RET)
P.X. KELLEY, GENERAL, USMC, (RET)
JAMES J. LINDSAY, GENERAL, USA (RET)
JOHN MICHAEL LOH, GENERAL, USAF, (RET)
LEIGHTON W. SMITH, ADMIRAL, USN (RET)
CARL STINER, GENERAL, USA (RET)
DONALD C. "DEESE" THOMPSON, VICE ADMIRAL, USCG, (RET)
HOWARD B. THORSEN, VICE ADMIRAL, USCG, (RET)
Politico Article
Admiral Holloway?? That's the one that was ringing my "bell".
Admiral Holloway was on the list of the 100 endorsers back ON DECEMBER 17, 2007.
Press Release from McCain Campaign
What's interesting is that so was:
General Davis
Admiral Hays
Admiral Johnson
General Kelley
Admiral Smith and
Vice Admiral Thorsen
I didn't bother looking up the few remainders to check their "true" endorsement dates however what I found was enough to lead any reasonable individual to believe that the press has been fooled.
In order to get some news when no good news was to be had John McCain has obviously reached back into a very old bag and simply issued a new release.
Does the press ever bother to do homework on this stuff??
Update: It looks like General Stiner isn't quite new either. I'm finding reference to his endorsement back in January. He jumped to McCain after Fred Thompsons energetic run. The link is another one of those "blanks" to the McCain site. Will try to find a good one.
