This diary is in the spirit of the true diversionary wit of fellow DKos citizen Droogie6655321, since he is busy with truly important things on this Friday. Forgive this pale imitation as the sincerest form of flattery. Hat's off to ya, Droog.
Today's topic: Most annoying musical acts.
I realize this is a cumbersome phrase, but I wanted to differential just plain bad from annoying (which is tastily subjective), and I didn't want to deal with the whole band/artist/group/duo/etc. differentiation. So "annoying musical acts" it is. I'll start the ball rolling with this list, in no particular order:
New Kids on the Block - possibly a place where "bad" and "annoying" intersect. Very little to redeem this bunch, even a few decent and surprisingly substantive acting roles from Marky Mark's older bro don't quite excuse them. Plus they were the inspiration for N'Sync.... yeah, I know, right?
Keith Urban - An Australian PRETENDING to have a southern drawl... disgusting. If you like real southern drawl, check out some classic Shenandoah (recommended: Two Dozen Roses). Those cats were country as corn FOR REAL and you can hear the sincerity in it. Lots of current country acts have this problem these day, come to think of it, but the Aussie is the most obvious offender.
Post "Appetite" G-N-R - How the hell can the guys that put out the most relevant hard rock album of the 80's in "Appetite for Destruction" descend into the kind of self-obsessive pandering that produces "Use Your Illusion" I and II? I hope no one is out there waiting for "Chinese Democracy" (the new G-N-R album that's been forthcoming for, what, a decade now?) to prove that "Illusion" was a flyer. That whole scenario annoys me. "Appetite" is still a great album front to back, tho.
Korn - most. overrated. band. ever. No talent, no vision, nothing new or interesting, just the most annoying vocal performances EVER.
P.Diddy/Puff Daddy/poof Duddy/or whatever the hell he calls himself these days - makes the list for spring-boarding off the death of Biggie Smalls into a vacuous career during which he accomplishes nothing but making money and becoming ever more irritating. The recent fast food commercials may mark his high water mark on the annoyance meter.
More to come, let the discussion begin. Remember this is subjective, so any answer counts. You have to list your reason, though. "They suck" just won't cut it, and you guys are better than that.
