They had another black Republican pundit guy on MSNBC this afternoon. That's two completely new black Republicans I've seen on TV news in the last week. It seems the industrial/news complex has single-mindedly dedicated itself to this on-air diversity because, apparently, Joe Watkins, J.C. Watts, Larry Elder, Ron Christie, Amy Holmes, Armstrong Williams, Mike Steele, Michelle Bernard, et al. ad nauseum, just aren't enough, combined, to offset, say, the awesome Gene Robinson. CNN even brings Ken Blackwell on-air sometimes and he's a fucking felon.
By my admittedly rough breakdown of nationwide numbers, we now have one African-American Republican on the air for every three actual African-American Republican citizens in the country, presumably via some mainstream media iteration of the affirmative action they so loathe.
Normally I couldn't give two shits what somebody looks like when they're being reactionary, doctrinaire and spouting rank idiocy, but when nearly the entire voting bloc is employed to so spout for mass public consumption, it starts to look conspicuous. Hell, I went to the African American Republican Leadership Council's website and found it couldn't even get enough African American Republican Leaders to populate its "Advisory Panel," two members of which are of African descent, the remaining thirteen of European. Among them are such noted friends of institutionally repressed peoples as hobbit Gary Bauer, the Heritage Foundation's Paul Weyrich, fiscal libertarian sociopath Grover Norquist and Sean Hannity, all of whom, last I checked, make people in Iowa say, "Damn, those guys are really white."
So, what the fuck, is the GOP Talking Heads Bureau pimping these guys out to the he-said/she-said segments? What's the tactical imperative behind it, to show everybody they've got the Uncle Tom vote locked up? Because, y'know, duh.
As long as you're triangulating on niche demographics by employing them all, why not get some club-footed Trotskyite vegan lesbian Republicans out there? They vote too, god damn it.
