So The Big Giant Head (as Keith Olbermann has referred to him) has outdone himself this time:
(h/t to The Young Turks for getting this clip up on YouTube)
He refers to those of us seeking equity in medical coverage as "Planned Parenthood fanatics", then said the following:
"Viagra is used to control a medical condition; that's why it's covered. Birth control is not a medical condition. It's a choice. Why should I, or anyone else, have to pay for other people's choices?"
You know, Bill, I've got news for you -- more women die every year from pregnancy-related complications than men die from floppy dicks. And having an erection is a choice too -- a man with ED can choose to not engage in sex, or they can do other sexual acts to please their partner that don't involve intercourse.
And of course, if a woman is unfortunate enough to get pregnant and have the baby, tough luck sister, you're on your own -- Bill O'Reilly and his spiritual brethren certainly aren't going to support programs like S-CHIP to keep your child healthy, or WIC programs to keep you and your child fed with nutritious food, or Section 8 housing programs to put a safe roof over your heads. Just tough it out and quit whining -- doesn't matter if you were raped, or your boyfriend got drunk and forced himself on you...tough cookies, kid.
The attitudes of men on the Right make me so sick at times -- but what's worse is that their women just nod and go along with it. We have no right to protect our health by getting insurance coverage for our birth control, but every man has the right to have a stiff penis they can use to potentially kill us.
This is what we fight against, ladies and gentlemen -- yes, I know FISA is important, and Iraq, and many other issues. But this is personal to me -- I'm one of those who would suffer severe health problems if I were to get pregnant, as would any potential offspring. In this case, I am pro-life...my own life. We've already seen evidence of the Bush misAdmininstration trying to make an end around move and declare effective forms of contraception such as the Pill and IUDs as "abortifacients", denying them to the poor women who need them the most. I'm fortunate that my spouse has good health coverage that does include coverage for birth control (and a good union that fights against any watering down of the coverage). What about the women who aren't as fortunate?
I apologize...no, I don't apologize for my anger, because it's righteous anger. Anger for myself, and my sisters who can't speak for themselves.
