I am not sure if the McCain camp is going to pull back from this statement, but yes according to Reuters, McCain agreed that the troops can be pulled out within two years. I am in disbelief as I write this.
During McCain's visit with GHWB, McCain was asked whether the troops could be pulled out within two years. Normally, a question like this would have fallen on deaf ears. It was only last May that McCain said in Colorado, "I will never surrender in Iraq."

Well, today, a very different story.
After a meeting with former President George H.W. Bush, McCain was asked whether it was conceivable for U.S. troops to be fully pulled out of Iraq in about two years.
"I think they could be largely withdrawn," the Arizona senator replied, citing the success of the "surge" strategy of increasing U.S. troop levels in increasing security in the country. "As I've said, we have succeeded".
What changed between May and now? Well, I really do not need to answer that question on DKOS. But, if anyone questions whether McCain was misunderstood or mistranslated, here is more from McCain's spokesman.
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said the senator's comments did not reflect a shift in position. "The two years in his answer today is consistent with his position that we can begin to responsibly discuss the reduction of troop levels in Iraq as long as they are based on maintaining the security and stability of the gains we made," Bounds said.
No, this is not a shift in position, it is a plunge. McCain's campaign is officially spiralling out of control. I do not think they know up from down.
