I understand conviction. I understand sticking to your principles. I understand grit and determination. I don’t understand some hard headed people that ignore the opinion of others. I don’t understand the rationale behind these ‘so called’ conservatives who think that they know what is best for everyone or that their heavy handedness is some kind of tough love.
July 21st, 2008 – on the NPR radio program "Talk of the Nation", in the segment with Mahvish Rukhansa Khan, author or My Guantanamo Diaries, caller Rich from Grand Rapids MI, doesn’t understand why there is sympathy for "prisoners of war" who are just a bunch of terrorists.
Well Rich, I suggest you read the Declaration of Independence which states; "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Notice it says ALL men; also I suggest you look up the word unalienable which is to say inalienable. Webster defines inalienable as; incapable of being alienated, surrendered, or transferred. That means ALL people (not just white, male, land owning, American citizens) have basic human rights, regardless of nationality, citizenship, criminal background or ANY other circumstance and that these rights CAN NOT be alienated, surrendered, or transferred.
I don’t understand why it is so easy for some people to treat their fellow human beings as if they were insignificant insects to be dismissed and reviled like a common mosquito. Why is it acceptable to rationalize the deconstruction of basic human rights? I’m not trying to say there are not evil people. I am trying to point out that evil acts against evil people do not become good acts. The Nazi used the rationale that the Jews were evil and that the holocaust was therefore justified. They were wrong!
On the NPR radio program "All Things Considered", in the segment NM Republicans Battle for McCain, Harry Straely (spelling?) said, "You can’t make deals with Liberals." What?!?!?! Do you expect to be able to ram your ideology down the throat of anyone who doesn’t agree with you? Isn’t that what the terrorists believe?!? Tyrants and Despots don’t make deals with the loyal opposition, Harry, you are advocating totalitarianism. Well, I guess you got me there. You can't make deals with someone who won't deal with you.
