Ok, even though I am an Obama supporter, I admit it.
The McCain campaign is right.
Their lack of coverage from the media is highly unfair and biased
There is a lot that the low-information public doesn't know about John McCain because the media has not given it enough attention.
So because I value fairness over my candidate, I suggest ten stories that the media need to cover more in order to give John McCain his due.
- The Keating 5 - It's just not fair to John McCain that Obama's friends like Tony Rezko get all the glory, what about McCain's buddy Charles Keating?
- McCain's Divorce - This would be a great story, traditional media, because it highlights how John McCain was a maverick...to the institution of marriage, that is. He left a wife he found less attractive after she was in a car accident to marry a younger, richer one who had the political connections in Arizona that launched his political career. C'mon tradtional media, don't tell me you don't like soap opera types of narratives. Why would you deny McCain the glory you would give to someone like Bill Clinton, for example. Why should Bill Clinton get all the funny perv jokes on late night TV when he didn't even leave his wife? You are not being fair to McCain!
- McCain's great relationship with women - In the aftermath of Hillary's candidacy, John McCain's singular appeal to female voters must be highlighted. The media need to give more attention to the fact that John McCain has such a good relationship with women that he can call his wife a c*nt and a trollop and nobody seems to mind! He can also joke about Gorillas raping women, Chelsea being Janet Reno's ugly child, etc. What a maverick. A "regular politician" would not have the "authenticity" to say something like that. The media need to stop favoring Obama by neglecting to highlight these issues for John McCain!
- John McCain's relationships with lobbyists - Lobbyists represent real Americans and the media ought to let the public know that John McCain is a man of the people!
- The McCains' multiple houses and inherited wealth - Why doesn't John McCain's bling bling get the attention that John Kerry's did 4 years ago, when everyone knew the Kerrys' had multiple homes? Does the media think ketchup is more glamorous than beer? Stop being so elitist, traditional media, the beer track voters want to know that the Mccains' distribute their beverage of choice.
- John McCain's misunderstanding of Middle East history and geography - Iraq and Iran. Sunni and Shia. The border between Iraq and Pakistan. The Surge's timing with regard to the Sunni awakening. Americans want to know that their president is a regular guy, someone they can have a beer with. They don't want an elitist who can find Iraq on a map! It's not fair that the media is ignoring this aspect of McCain's regular guy cred.
- McCain's great humor - Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran. Cigarettes are a great way to kill Iranians. Etc, etc. This is what international diplomacy requires, a sense of humor. Why is the media covering up this positive aspect of McCain's personality? Don't they love America?
- McCain's anger - He yells at fellow Senators. He swears at them. On a cheery day, he comes off as Grampa Simpson. Look, this is the type of passion we want in someone with access to the nuclear codes. We don't want some calm, even-tempered person to have to make the decision to hit that red button. Where would the drama and fun be in that? It's not fair that the media repeat the meme that McCain is similar to Bush when he is Bush with a great passionate temper. That's why he'll be better than Bush. Why don't the media talk more about this exciting aspect of John McCain?
- McCain's flip flops. John McCain was against agents of intolerance (like Falwell) before he was for them. He was against the Bush tax cuts before he was for them. He was against offshore drilling before he was for it. He was for comprehensive immigration reform before he was against it. Why should Kerry and Obama get all the fun of the flip flopper designation. The media are not giving John McCain's positions the attention they deserve. Damn liberal media!
- McCain's great parties - Look folks, John McCain knows how to throw a great party. Like this one with the evil media that does not give him attention.
I mean, seriously, the Politico only brought Cindy McCain flowers! How f'ing cheap and trite. The media are clearly biased against McCain.
Anyways, folks, those are ten stories I think the media ought to give more attention to to be fair to John McCain. If you have any others, add 'em in the comments section. We want the media to be fair and even though most of us support Obama, I think we can be big enough to help the traditional media find great stories on John McCain that will ensure that he gets the attention he deserves.
You see folks, this may be a progressive web site, but we have to be honest enough to admit that John McCain has not gotten enough media attention and that this is unfair to him.
Let give him what he deserves.
It's only fair.
