You can't make this stuff up. A month ago, John McCain blasted Senator Obama for suggesting that Osama Bin Laden be captured and tried at an international court similar to the Nuremberg trials.
Let me be clear, under my administration Osama bin Laden will either be killed on the battlefield or executed. Senator Obama’s failure to comprehend the implication of the Supreme Court decision he embraced and the historical precedent of Nuremberg raise serious questions about judgment and experience and whether Senator Obama is ready to assume the awesome responsibilities of commander in chief.
Of course, as with almost every position he's held, John McCain flipped his position in a complete 180 degree circle today in an interview on CNN.
More below the fold.
In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, McCain shifted his position completely and is now open to trying Osama in an international court of law.
Sen. John McCain on Friday said that as president he would consider bringing Osama bin Laden to justice through a Nuremberg-like international trial.
He told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: "We have various options. The Nuremberg Trials are certainly an example of the kind of tribunal that we could move forward with. I don’t think we’d have any difficulty in devising an international — internationally supported mechanism that would mete out justice. There’s no problem there."
So much for the straight talk express. Somehow I don't expect John McCain to put out a statement criticizing himself for "failing to comprehend historical precedent" and question his own "judgement and experience".
This man cannot be allowed to become our next president.
UPDATE: In another stunning flip flop, John McCain offers support for the 16 month time table originally proposed by Senator Obama.
BLITZER: Why do you think [Maliki] said that 16 months is basically a pretty good timetable?
MCCAIN: He said it’s a pretty good timetable based on conditions on the ground. I think it’s a pretty good timetable, as we should — or horizons for withdrawal. But they have to be based on conditions on the ground. This success is very fragile. It’s incredibly impressive, but very fragile. So we know, those of us who have been involved in it for many years, know that if we reverse this, by setting a date for withdrawal, all of the hard-won victory can be reversed.
Let's see if the media calls out John McCain for essentially trying to become Barack Obama.
